BEA girls continue their winning ways

Boys defeat the Jaguars, tie for third at Big South Division Meet

The other members of the squad who have been contributing to BEA’s success are Rylan Storbeck, Madison Ehrich, McKinley Hanson and Lola Lundquist. Weather permitting, the girls will be playing a lot of golf during the coming weeks.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers hit the links on Tuesday, April 23, at the Rose Lake Golf Club in Fairmont against the Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther Jaguars.

Girls Results

Blue Earth Area shot a 185 to defeat T/GHEC/ML, who had an incomplete team.

The Bucs swept the top six spots on the leaderboard with Katelyn Storbeck earning medalist honors with a round of 42 on the par-35, nine-hole course.

Starting play on the ninth hole, Storbeck carded pars on five consecutive holes on her way to a three-stroke victory.

Rylan Storbeck finished in the runner-up position with a score of 45. She parred the second and the ninth holes.

Finishing third was Payten Gudahl with a 47. Gudahl had pars on hole No. 3, hole No. 7 and hole No. 9.

Madison Ehrich, McKinley Hanson and Lola Lundquist each shot a 51 to tie for fourth place. Ehrich and Lundquist each had one par.

Boys Results

Although Gavin Kester of the Jaguars claimed medalist honors, it was the Bucs who won the team title by a 37-stroke margin, 166-203.

Kester secured the individual championship by shooting a 4-over-par 39, but BEA had the five next lowest scores to win the meet.

Eli Blagg and Max Loge each shot a 41 to tie for second place. Blagg had pars on the third, sixth, eighth and ninth holes while Loge birdied the seventh hole and parred the fourth and sixth holes.

There was also a tie for fourth place between BEA’s Jackson Blondin and Cole Becker with each player shooting a 42.

Blondin’s round included a birdie on hole No. 2 and pars on the first, eighth and ninth holes. Becker recorded birdies on holes No. 8 and No. 9 and parred the fifth hole.

Manny Granillo finished in sixth place overall with a 43. His round included pars on the second, third and seventh holes.

Hunter Viland’s round of 47 included pars on the first and third holes and put him in eighth place overall.

Big South Division Meet

The Blue Earth Area golf teams were in action at Big South Division meets on Monday, April 22.

Shoreland Country Club, in St. Peter, was the site of the girl’s meet while Minn-Iowa Golf Club near Elmore was the host for the boy’s meet.

In addition to BEA, the other five schools competing at the meets were Fairmont, Jackson County Central, New Ulm, St. Peter and Waseca.

Girls Results

BEA won the girls’ meet with a team score of 182, 32 strokes better than runner-up Waseca’s score of 214. St. Peter finished third with 219, Fairmont was fourth with 224, New Ulm placed fifth with 240 while JCC did not have a complete team.

The Bucs nabbed the top four spots on the leaderboard at the meet.

Claiming medalist honors with a round of 42 on the par-35 course was Katelyn Storbeck. Storbeck produced four pars during her nine holes of play.

Taking second place at the meet was Payten Gudahl. Her round of 45 included three pars.

Madison Ehrich had the third best score at the meet with a round of 47.

Rylan Storbeck carded a 48 which included two pars to finish in fourth place.

Rounding out BEA’s team for the day were McKinley Hanson, who finished 11th with a 55, and Lola Lundquist, who finished 19th with a 61.

Boys Results

St. Peter captured the title at the boys meet with a team score of 146. Coming in second was New Ulm with 159, BEA and JCC tied for third with 167, Waseca finished fifth with 169 and Fairmont came in sixth with 174.

BEA’s top golfer for the day was Jackson Blondin. He shot a 37 on the par-36 course to finish in fourth place overall. His round included birdies on hole No. 1 and hole No. 6.

Hunter Viland had the second lowest score for the Bucs and placed 14th overall with a round of 41. Viland birdied hole No. 1 and hole No. 6.

Max Loge had the third lowest score for the Bucs with a 44. Loge had three pars and finished in 19th-place overall.

Also contributing to BEA’s team score was Manny Granillo with a 45. He had two pars to finish fourth for the Bucs and 22nd overall.

Also golfing for BEA were Eli Blagg and Cooper Peterson. Each golfer shot a 46 to tie for 23rd place overall. Blagg had two pars while Peterson counted four pars.

New Ulm Invite

The Blue Earth Area golf teams traveled to New Ulm on Thursday, April 18 to compete in the six-team New Ulm Eagles Invitational.

The meet, which took place at New Ulm Country Club, saw the Buccaneer girls finish in first place while the BEA boys ended up in fourth place.

Girls Results

BEA’s winning team score of 364 was 56 strokes better than runner-up St. Peter’s score of 420. Fairmont had a 427 to finish third. LeSueur-Henderson was fourth with 438, New Ulm fifth with 469 and Tri-City United did not have a complete team.

“The girls played pretty well,” BEA coach Al Cue commented. “But every girl thought they wasted at least a few shots.”

Buc golfers carded the three best scores of the day on the 18-hole course. Payten Gudahl was the medalist with an 84, Katelyn Storbeck placed second with an 85 and Rylan Storbeck was third with a 92.

Madison Ehrich’s round of 103 was good for ninth place and McKinley Hanson shot a 104 to finish in 11th place.

Gudahl shot a 42 on the front nine and then followed that up with another 42 on the back nine. She birdied hole No. 1 and parred six other holes.

Katelyn Storbeck shot a 44-41-85 to finish one stroke behind her teammate, Gudahl. Storbeck had a birdie on the 13th hole and four pars during the meet.

Rylan Storbeck shot a 47 on the front nine and finished with a 45 on the back nine for a total score of 92 to finish in third place. She carded four pars for the day.

Ehrich shot a 54-49-103 and had one par while McKinley Hanson finished with a 52-52-104.

Boys Results

St. Peter captured first place in the boys’ meet with a team score of 309 while New Ulm finished in second place with 339. Finishing in third place was Le Sueur-Henderson with 349, BEA was fourth with 363, Fairmont took fifth with 369 and TCU was sixth with 403.

Eli Blagg led BEA with a 43-43-86 to finish in 13th place overall and 15 shots over par. He had a birdie on hole No. 18 in addition to four pars.

Max Loge had the next lowest score for the Bucs with a 90. Loge carded a 44 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine to finish 19th overall. His round included six pars.

Jackson Blondin finished in 21st place overall with a 47-46-93. He recorded two pars.

Right behind Blondin was Manny Granillo with a 47-47-94 to finish 22nd. His round included two pars.

Rounding out the Bucs’ scores were Cole Becker with 47-50-97 to finish in 24th place and Hunter Viland, who shot a 51-51-102 to finish 26th overall.

The girls were scheduled to play in St. Peter on April 25. Both squads were to travel to Windom on April 26 to take on the Eagles at the Windom Country Club.
