Bucs fall to Redwood Valley in baseball

The Blue Earth Area baseball team traveled to Redwood Falls to take on the Redwood Valley Cardinals in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 25.

The Cardinals took both ends of the twin bill winning the first game 10-6, and squeaking by the Bucs 4-3 in the second game.

Redwood Valley 10,

BEA 6

Trailing 10-1 going into their final at-bat, BEA rallied for five runs in their last at-bat thanks to a three-run homer off the bat of Kaden Ackerman. However, Redwood Valley shut the door on the Bucs’ comeback to claim the 10-6 victory.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Redwood Valley added three more runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to complete their scoring.

The Cardinals outhit the Bucs 9-5. Each team committed two errors.

BEA’s Caleb Langager went 2-for-5 at the plate. Ackerman drove in three runs with his home run while Taylor Davids and Hayden Veriede had the other two hits for the Bucs.

Langager was charged with the loss after starting the game on the mound and hurling three innings. He gave up five earned runs on six hits while walking three batters and striking out three.

Vereide threw the final four innings and gave up five runs, three earned. He allowed three hits, walked two batters and had three strikeouts.

For the fourth time this season, BEA suffered a defeat in the final inning of the game.

The score was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. A single and an error on the Bucs in the seventh inning allowed the Cardinals to score and claim the victory.

BEA outhit Redwood Valley by an 8-4 margin but three errors by the Maroon and Gold helped Redwood Valley stay in the game.

The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Bucs put one run on the board in the top of the second inning. Peyton O’Hara singled to center to lead off the inning and moved to second on a walk to Noah Dahl. Kaden Ackerman’s single and an error on the Cardinals allowed O’Hara to cross the plate with the Bucs’ first run of the game.

The Cardinals tacked on another run to their total in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, but the Bucs scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Caleb Langager got things started for the Bucs in the fifth inning when he lined a one-out double to center field. Carter Rosenau’s single drove home Langager and Rosenau advanced to second when the Cardinals attempted to throw Langager out at home.

Following a strikeout, O’Hara laced a single to center field to bring home Rosenau and tie the game at 3-3.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when Redwood Valley scored once to win the game.

Noah Dahl pitched five innings for BEA and was charged with three runs, two earned. He gave up two hits, walked two batters and struck out five batters.

Langager came in and pitched a scoreless sixth inning before the Cardinals scored the winning run with one out. Langager gave up one unearned run while surrendering two hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three batters.
