An explosive fifth inning propelled the United South Central Rebels’ baseball team to a big 13-9 win over the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers on Thursday, April 25.

USC scored a run in the first and third innings for a 2-0 lead. But the Bucs came up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2.

That is when the Rebels came through with 10 runs and a commanding 12-2 lead. WEM came up with three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 12-8 and both teams scored a run in the seventh for the 13-9 final.

WEM actually outhit USC 10-6, but they also had seven errors to the Rebels’ two. USC also had 10 stolen bases in the game.

Three of USC’s hits were for extra bases. Mason Haugh had a double and Aiden Crabtree hit a double and a home run. Haugh scored two runs and had three RBI. Crabtree scored two runs and had four RBI.

Seth Kayser had two hits and scored four runs. Rylan Clay had USC’s other hit, scored a run and had two RBI.

Riley Stevermer pitched five innings, gave up five runs on five hits, walked two batters and struck out five.

Mitch Meyer came in for one inning and gave up four runs on three hits, walked two and struck out none. Zayden Schott pitched one inning, allowed no runs, two hits and no walks or strikeouts.
