BEA tennis team downs St. James 5-2
Boys lose 4-3 to the New Ulm Eagles in a closely contested meet

The Blue Earth Area boys tennis team served the St. James Saints a 5-2 defeat on Tuesday, May 7.
That being said, St. James’s Andrei Rivera proved a formidable opponent for BEA’s Joe Frundt. Rivera booked a 7-5, 6-2 victory over the Bucs’ No. 1 singles player.
Jamie Johnson fared better at No. 2 singles, defeating the Saints’ Vince Brown 7-6 (7-0), 6-1. BEA’s Brady Lorenz also won his match against Ryan Meyer at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Ryder Dutton scored the Bucs’ final singles win at the No. 4 slot against St. James’s Xander Brown, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 1 doubles team Devin Haase and Gustavo Chavero beat Saints Caleb Fast and Dylan Reid in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, but the No. 2 doubles match went to St. James when Seth Stevermer and Seth Mathews were defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Cohen Dannhoff and Noah Sauer.
The Bucs picked up a final win at No. 3 doubles with Mitchell Stevermer and Noah Hanson’s 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Juan Cervantes and Jacob Espinoza.
The Bucs faced the Fairmont Cardinals on Thursday, May 9, and they were scheduled to play Pipestone Area on Tuesday, May 14.
The Boys Tennis Varsity Section Quarterfinals are set for Thursday, May 16.
New Ulm 4, BEA 3
BEA suffered a heartbreaker on Friday, May 3, when the New Ulm Eagles pinned a 4-3 loss on the Bucs.
Short their No. 3 singles player, Brady Lorenz, BEA won two of its four singles matches.
Buc Joe Frundt booked another win at No. 1 singles, defeating Mav Johnson 6-3, 6-4, as did Jamie Johnson, who defeated the Eagles’ Charlie Weidman 6-4, 6-1.
Ryder Dutton moved up to the No. 3 singles slot, where he faced Gideon Heins. Heins brought New Ulm’s first singles win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
BEA’s Joseph Bautista took over the No. 4 singles slot, and was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Ian Schotzko.
Doubles was also a mixed bag. Seth Stevermer and Seth Mathews were defeated at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-1 by Eagles Joey Kotteu and Dan Brownfield. However, Devin Haase and Gustavo Chavero brought the Bucs a win at No. 2 doubles against Aaron Back and Ethan Neet, 6-2, 6-2.
New Ulm took the No. 3 doubles match when Isaac Dittmer and Eli Dorschner defeated Mitchell Stevermer and Noah Hanson, 6-0, 6-3.
