Davids hurls three-hitter for Bucs’ win
Blue Earth Area pitcher Taylor Davids pitched a three-hitter and held the St. James Saints to one run and the Buccaneer offense scored three runs to claim a 3-1 victory in a game played on Tuesday, May 7 at Veterans Field in Blue Earth.
The Saints scored their only run in the top of the first inning but the Bucs tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning.
Carter Rosenau hit a one-out double and remained at second base when the Saints recorded the second out of the inning on a fly ball to center field.
Peyton O’Hara was hit by a pitch and Noah Dahl walked to fill the bases. Kaden Ackerman singled on a line drive to right field to score Rosenau and tie the game at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Davids led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single and moved to second on a walk to O’Hara. It looked like St. James might get out of the inning unscathed when they got the next two BEA batters out, but Brandon Rhey hit a two-strike line drive single to drive home Davids with BEA’s second run of the game.
The Bucs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Caleb Langager hit a one-out single to right field. After stealing second base, Langager advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Rosenau. Davids walked to put runners at the corners. A single by O’Hara brought Langager home and made the score 3-1 in the favor of BEA.
The Bucs had seven hits and each team committed one error.
Davids had two hits for BEA while Lagager, Rosenau, O’Hara, Ackerman and Rhey each had one.
O’Hara, Ackerman and Rhey each had one run batted in.
Davids gave up one run which was unearned. He allowed three hits and did not issue any walks. He struck out seven batters.
BEA was scheduled to play Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain in Blue Earth on Thursday, May 9. Results of that game will be in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
Maple River 11, BEA 4
The host Maple River Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning on their way to an 11-4 victory over the visiting Blue Earth Area Buccaneers in baseball action on Monday, May 6.
The Bucs scored twice in the top of the second inning to cut the Eagles’ advantage to 5-3 before Maple River tacked another run to their total to lead the Bucs 6-3 after two complete innings.
Neither team scored again until the bottom of the fifth inning when Maple River plated four runs to make the score 10-3.
Each team scored one run in the sixth inning to make the final score 11-4 in favor of the Eagles.
Maple River outhit BEA by a 10-5 margin. Both teams struggled in the field with the Bucs being charged with five errors and the Eagles committing four errors.
Caleb Langager, Peyton O’Hara, Noah Dahl, Brandon Hauskins and Matthew Klabunde each had one hit for the Bucs.
Dahl started on the mound and took the loss after pitching four innings and giving up six runs (two earned). He allowed five hits, walked three batters and struck out seven.
Luverne 10, BEA 0
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers were held hitless in the opening game of a double header against the Luverne Cardinals on Friday, May 3.
Meanwhile, the hometown Cardinals had 10 hits in their 10-0 shutout victory.
Luverne scored once in the first inning, four times in the second, added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth to account for their 10 runs.
Peyton O’Hara took the loss after tossing three and two thirds innings. He was charged with six runs (all earned) while giving up seven hits, walking five batters and striking out four.
Luverne 14, BEA 4
Luverne was the visiting team on the scoreboard for the second game of the doubleheader and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Cardinals had increased their lead to 8-0 by the time the Bucs came up to bat in the bottom of the third inning.
Hayden Vereide started the game on the mound for the Bucs and was charged with the loss after allowing six earned runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out one batter.
