USC gets big victory over Blooming Prairie
Girls have 12-1 record after also shutting out St. Clair 4-0
In a game that was pretty close in the first couple of innings, the United South Central softball team exploded for a lot of runs later in the game and downed the Blooming Prairie Blossoms 11-1 on Tuesday, May 7.
Blooming Prairie scored their only run in the top of the first inning for their only lead in the game. The Rebels came back and scored one run in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.
Neither team scored in the second inning, but then USC scored three runs in the third, one in the fifth and six in the sixth inning to end the game.
The Rebels had 11 hits in the game, with Mariah Anderson, Lily Lutteke and Taylor Schroeder having two hits each.
Anderson had a double and also scored three runs, while Lutteke had four RBI.
Kendal Harpestad, Riley Getchell, Olivia Bungum, Ivy O’Rourke and Alivia Bruegger all had one hit each.
Anderson pitched all six innings, giving up the one run on two hits. She walked two batters and struck out 12. Blooming Prairie pitcher Macy Lembke gave up the 11 hits and runs, walked five Rebel batters and struck out four.
Next up for the Rebels was a game scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at Hayfield, and on Friday, May 10 against Madelia in Wells.
This week they are scheduled to play at home against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Monday, May 13, host Medford on Tuesday, May 14 and play at Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thursday, May 16.
USC 4, St. Clair 0
The United South Central softball team scored four runs against the St. Clair Cyclones on Monday, May 6, while shutting down the St. Clair batters and winning the game 4-0.
The Rebels got one run in the first inning, then added three more in the fourth inning.
USC had a total of six hits with Taylor Schroeder getting two of them and Mariah Anderson, Lily Lutteke, Ivy O’Rourke and Riley Getchell getting one hit each. Anderson’s hit was a double.
Anderson also pitched all seven innings and allowed just two hits, walked one batter and struck out 18 of St. Clair’s 23 batters.
St. Clair pitcher Lydia Kaseus also went seven innings, allowing the four Rebel runs, three earned, and the six hits, while also walking four Rebels and striking out 10.
The Rebels left seven runners on base, the Cyclones three.
