Rebels lose by one run to Jaguars

Aiden Crabtree, shown above pitching against the St. Clair Cyclones, has logged a lot of innings on the mound this season for United South Central.

After having tied up the game in the top of the seventh inning, the United South Central Rebels baseball team lost a heartbreaker when the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and won the game 7-6.

The game was played in Truman on Tuesday, May 14.

The Jaguars took an early lead when they scored a run in the first inning. USC took the lead 2-1 when they scored two runs in the fourth inning.

The Rebels scored again in the top of the sixth to go up 3-1, but the Jaguars scored five in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-3.

USC came back with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie it all up at 6-6, until ML/GHEC/T scored a run to win 7-6.

The Rebels outhit the Jags 7-5. Byron Getchell had two hits and Kolt Bullerman, Avery Crawford, Mitch Meyer, Seth Kayser and Zayden Schott all had one hit each.

Crawford and Bullerman both had a double.

Riley Stevermer pitched five innings and gave up three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out three. Mitch Meyer came in and allowed three runs, no hits, walked three and struck out none. Mason Haugh came in and pitched one and one third inning, giving up one run on one hit, walked two and struck out three.

USC was scheduled to play host to Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thursday, May 16, and then travel to Blooming Prairie on Friday, May 17. Details on those games will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.

USC 5, JCC 4

After falling behind 4-1 in a home game against the Jackson County Central Huskies on Saturday, May 11, the United South Central Rebels scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a come-from-behind 5-4 victory.

JCC scored two runs in the top of the first inning, then one more in both the second and third innings.

USC scored one run in the bottom of the first, before exploding for four in the bottom of the seventh for the dramatic win.

USC also outhit JCC 8-7. Mason Haugh, Aiden Crabtree and Byron Getchell had two hits each, with one of Getchell’s being a two-bagger.

Avery Crawford and Mitch Meyer both had one hit in the game.

Riley Stevermer started the game and pitched one and one third innings, giving up four runs on four hits, walking one batter and striking out one.

Meyer came in for two and two thirds innings and gave up no runs, two hits, walked two and struck out three Huskies. Haugh pitched the last two innings and gave up no runs, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one batter. He was credited with the win.

Hayfield 11, USC 1

The United South Central Rebel baseball team had a rough outing when they hosted the Hayfield Vikings on Thursday, May 9.

The Vikings triumphed 11-1 over the Rebels.

Hayfield scored three runs in the first inning, two in both the second and third, and four in the fourth. The Rebels scored their one run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Vikings outhit the Rebels 14 to 3.

Kolt Bullerman got two of the Rebels’ hits, with one of them being a double. Zayden Schott had the other hit.

Aiden Crabtree pitched two innings and gave up five runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out three. Riley Stevermer pitched one inning and gave up five runs on four hits, walked two and struck out one. Mitch Meyer came in for two innings and gave up one run on one hit and struck out two batters.

Hayfield had two errors, USC had just one.
