Rebel boys golf their way to second place
The United South Central boys golf team took second place at the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panther Invitational Golf Meet on Monday, May 20, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Waseca.
The Rebels had a team score of 327. In first place was Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton with 319. Taking third place was Waseca with a 330 score, and in fourth was Blue Earth Area at 336.
There were 12 teams and 62 golfers participating in the meet. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial was in fifth place with 339, Blooming Prairie was sixth with 346, St. Peter seventh at 362, Hayfield eighth at 390, Randolph ninth with 417, Maple River 10th with 426 and host NRHEG 11th with 453. Kenyon-Wanamingo had an incomplete team score.
Leading the Rebel boys were Blake Bullerman and Kaydyn Neubauer who tied for fourth place with identical scores of 80 for the 18-hole competition.
Brennan Olson was just one stroke behind them with an 81, which put him in 10th place. Jon Stanke was the last Rebel varsity player whose score counted for the team tally. He came in with an 86 and was in 17th place.
The other two USC varsity players were Brennan Anderson with an 89 and in a tie for 24th place, and Mason Schrader who scored a 94 and was in 41st place.
JWP’s Steven Dimmel was the medalist with a score of 73.
The USC boys team now has a record of 26-4 for the season. The next competition for both the boys and girls teams was slated to be the third and final round in the Gopher Conference Tournament. It was set for Thursday, May 23, also to be held at the Lakeside Golf Course in Waseca.
The USC boys will start Section Competition on Tuesday, May 28, and the USC girls start Section play on Thursday, May 30. Both competitions will be at North Links in Mankato.
Both boys and girls that advance will play in the second day of Sections on Monday, June 3, also at North Links in Mankato.
USC Girls Golf Results
The United South Central girls golf team also competed at the NRHEG Panther Invite.
Blue Earth Area won the girls tournament with a team score of 356. In second place was Hayfield with 404, Waseca third with 414, St. Peter fifth at 435 and NRHEG was sixth with 443.
USC and five other teams had incomplete team scores.
The Rebels had three varsity players participating. Emma Heggen led the team with a score of 95, good for seventh place. Eva Hernandez was in 26th place with a score of 119, and Angelica Hernandez shot a 142 for 37th place.
Payten Gudahl of BEA was the meet medalist with a score of 80.
The Rebel girls will next be competing in the third and final round of the Gopher Conference Meet set for Thursday, May 23, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Waseca.
