The Blue Earth Area boys just missed advancing to the second round of the Section 2 AA Golf Tournament following their fifth-place finish after the first round of the tourney.
The first round of the Section 2AA Golf Tournament was held on Tuesday, May 28, at the New Prague Golf Club with only the top four teams from the first round of play moving on to the second, and final round of the tourney, which will be played on Tuesday, June 4, back in New Prague.
Holy Family Catholic holds a 14-stroke lead after the first round with a team score of 287. Southwest Christian sits in second place with 301, St. Peter is third with 306, Le Sueur-Henderson is in fourth place with 330 and BEA is fifth with 333.
Waseca and Jordan each shot 337 to tie for sixth.
All six members of the Holy Family Catholic team are sitting in the top-10 individually after the opening round.
Eli Blagg is the only Bucs’ golfer who qualified to advance to the second day of the tournament.
Blagg is in a three-way tie for 12th place after the first round, with a four-over-par score of 39-37-76 which is six strokes behind first-round leader PJ Herron of Holy Family Catholic.
Blagg recorded birdies on hole Nos. 8, 11 and 13 and pars on the first, fourth, sixth, ninth, 10th 12th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes.
“Eli played a very steady round of golf today,” BEA coach Darrin Germann said. “He played very well.”
Cole Becker carded a 40-44-84 to tie with three other golfers, including teammate Jackson Blondin, for 28th place.
Becker birdied hole No. 3 and parred hole Nos. 2, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13 and 16.
Blondin parred hole Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 while shooting a 40-44-84.
Hunter Viland shot a 42-47-89 to finish in a three-way tie for 35th place. He parred the first, third, fifth, sixth, eighth, 12th and 16th holes.
Max Loge finished 40th with a 44-47-91. He had pars on hole Nos. 6, 9, 10 and 12.
Manny Granillo parred the 16th hole to finish with a 49-53-102.
