USC is second after first day of Sections
Rebels trail leader Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton by 35 strokes

The United South Central boys golf team was in second place after the first day of the two-day Section 2A Golf Tournament. The tourney was played on Tuesday, May 28, at North Links Golf Course in Mankato.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton was in first place after Day One, with a team score of 306. The USC Rebels had a team score of 341 for second place.
Right behind USC were New Ulm Cathedral and Sleepy Eye United with identical team scores of 343.
These top four teams, plus the top five golfers not on the four teams, and any golfers within five strokes of the fifth qualifier, advance to Day Two of the Section Tournament. It will be held on Monday, June 3, back at North Links Golf Course in Mankato.
Leading the way for the Rebels on the first day of the tourney was Kadyn Neubauer who shot an 82 and was in seventh place.
Right behind him was Brennan Olson with an 83 and in 11th place. Blake Bullerman shot an 85 and was in 16th place. Completing the team score was Brennan Anderson who carded a 91 and was in 30th place.
Jon Stanke shot a 93 and was in 33rd place and Mason Schrader was in 49th place with a score of 99.
Hunter Schmidt of Martin County West was the first day medalist with a score of 70.
There were 77 golfers participating in Day One of the Section 2A Tournament, and there will be 37 competing in Day Two.
On Day Two, the top team and the top five individuals not on the team qualify to go to the State Class 2A Tournament which will take place at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker on June 11-12.
USC Girls Golf Results
The USC girls competed in the first day of the Section on Thursday, May 30, and two Rebel golfers are advancing to Day Two.
Emma Heggen shot a 108 for sixth place, and Eva Hernandez shot a 122 for 20th place and both advance to the second day of the Section Tourney on Monday, June 3.
Gopher Conference
Golf Tournament
After three different days of competing in three rounds of the Gopher Conference Golf Tournament, the United South Central boys golf team ended up in second place as a team and three Rebel golfers ended up with All-Conference honors.
USC was in second place after each one of the three rounds. The third round was played on Thursday, May 23, at Lakeside Golf Course in Waseca.
The final Gopher Conference Tournament results had Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in first place with 966 strokes and USC in second place with 1,015 strokes. Blooming Prairie was in third with 1,065, Triton fourth with 1,069, Kenyon-Wanamingo fifth with 1,188, Hayfield sixth with 1,212, Randolph seventh with 1,230 and Maple River eighth with 1,276.
The Rebels were led in the tournament by Kadyn Neubauer. His three total for the tourney was 228, which put him in second place after the three days.
Blake Bullerman shot a total 252 for eighth place, Brennan Olson was right behind in ninth place with a 261 and Brennan Anderson shot a 274 for 14th place.
USC’s other two varsity golfers were Jon Stanke who carded a three-day total of 282 for 20th place and Mason Schrader with a 306 for 29th place.
Neubauer shot a 76 on the final day of the three day tourney, good for second place for the day. Olson shot a 79 and was in fourth place, Bullerman shot an 80 for sixth place, Anderson and Stanke both carded 89 and tied for 13th place and Schrader shot a 94 for 22nd place.
Neubauer, Bullerman and Olson all received All-Conference honors.
For Neubauer, a senior, this is his fourth time being named to All-Conference honors, from ninth to 12th grade.
It is also Bullerman’s fourth time to make the All-Conference list, from ninth to 12th grade.
Olson, a sophomore, is on the All-Conference list for the second year.
Steve Dimmel, of JWP, was the medalist on the third and last day of the tourney with a 74. He was also named the Gopher Conference Player of the Year.
USC Girls Golf Results
The United South Central girls golf team participated in the Gopher Conference three-round conference tournament, but had an incomplete team score.
In the third round played at Lakeside Golf Course on Thursday, May 23, USC was led by Emma Heggen who shot a 101 and was in fifth place for the day. For the three-day total for the tournament she was also in fifth place with a tally of 291.
Heggen, a junior, was also awarded All-Conference honors for the fourth time, having received the honor every year since she was in eighth grade.
Eva Hernandez shot a 126 on the final day, and was in 17th place. She ended with a three-day total of 362 for 18th place overall.
Angelica Hernandez shot a 136 for 21st place on the final day for a total score of 437 and 23rd place for the tournament.
Hayfield was the Gopher Conference champions with a third day score of 400 and a three-day tally of 1,215.
Carly Bronson of Hayfield was the third round medalist and Lydia Flotterud of Kenyon-Wanamingo was the Gopher Conference Player of the Year.
