USC nine falls to Hayfield

Season ends with Section loss

The United South Central baseball team’s season came to an abrupt halt when the 13th seeded Rebels played the No. 4 seeded Hayfield Vikings in Hayfield on Wednesday, May 22.

The Vikings defeated the Rebels 13-3 in Section 1A Baseball Tournament action.

Hayfield scored one run in the first inning and three more in the second for an early 4-0 lead. USC scored two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Vikings scored two more in the bottom of the fourth and the Rebels scored a run in the top of the fifth and the score was 5-3.

But, in the sixth and final inning the Vikings scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning and the game was over.

Hayfield outhit USC 10 to six. Kolt Bullerman and Avery Crawford both had two hits for the Rebels.

Byron Getchell and Mason Haugh each had one hit but they were both doubles.

Aiden Crabtree pitched five innings and gave up six runs, three of them earned, on seven hits. He walked three and struck out nine Viking batters.

Riley Stevermer came in and pitched giving up six runs, two hits including a home run, two walks and no strike outs.

Haugh came in and pitched one third of an inning and gave up one run on one hit, issued no walks and struck out one batter.
