Armstrong is fourth at State in vault
Senior makes it on the podium for the second consecutive year
Addison Armstrong finished her athletic career at Blue Earth Area with a fourth-place finish in the Class A State Track Meet held June 6-7 at St. Michael/Albertville High School.
“We were excited when Addison qualified for a return trip to the State Meet in the pole vault,” BEA head track coach Donna Nawrocki said. “Under the tutelage of our vaults coach, Jake Zebedeee, she has become one of the best vaulters in Section 2A and in our State in Class A.”
In fact, vaulters from Section 2A grabbed three of the top five spots at the State Meet.
Taking first was Riley Sater from Le Sueur-Henderson with a winning vault of 11-09. Armstrong and Lauren Mutschler of Maple River tied for fourth when they each cleared the bar at a height of 10-06.
Ironically, Armstrong and Mutschler also tied for fourth at last year’s State Meet with a mark of 10-06.
“Addison seized the moment to match her fourth-place finish from the year before,” Nawrocki commented. “We are excited for her to continue her vaulting career in college.”
Armstrong will be attending the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.
“There is no doubt she will be vaulting to new heights,” Nawrocki concluded. “And the BluGolds will be getting an extremely hard worker and a dedicated athlete.”
United South Central’s Brant Blosser also competed in the Class A State Meet.
Blosser, who qualified for the 110-meter hurdles by beating the State standard at the Section 2A Meet, finished 16th in the prelims and did not qualify to compete in the finals.
Blosser, who is a junior, will have a chance to get back to the State Meet during his senior year next season.
