Gudahl ties for 27th at State Golf Meet
Storbeck finishes in a four-way tie for 34th in rain-shortened tourney

Payten Gudahl, left, and Katelyn Storbeck, right, competed in the Class AA State Golf Tournament on June 11-12. Gudahl, a senior, tied for 27th while Storbeck, a sophomore, tied for 34th.
Senior Payten Gudahl sank her final putt of the Minnesota State Class AA Golf Championship and moments later was hugging her mother in an emotional embrace.
“I think it just kind of hits you when you realize that it’s over, that you are done,” Shanna Gudahl, Payten’s mother, said.
It was Gudahl’s third trip to the State Tournament. She ended the rain-shortened competition in a four-way tie for 27th place. Gudahl’s teammate, Katelyn Storbeck, finished three strokes behind Gudahl in a four-way tie for 34th place.
Rain forced the cancellation of the final nine holes last Wednesday, so instead of a 36-hole tournament, it became a 27-hole contest.
Gudahl shot a 44-41-85 the first day of the tournament. The State Meet took place at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan on June 11-12. She birdied hole No. 3 and parred hole Nos. 1, 10, 11, 14, 17 and 18.
During her final nine holes, Gudahl parred the 10th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes while recording a score of 42 for a two-day total of 127.
In Gudahl’s previous trips to the State Golf Tournament, she finished in 62nd place as a sophomore and in 46th place as a junior last year.
It was Storbeck’s second trip to the State Tournament. Two years ago, as an eighth grader, she finished in 70th place.
Storbeck shot a 42 on both the front nine and the back nine to finish the first day of the tournament with an 84. Her round included birdies on the first, seventh and 11th holes while she parred hole Nos. 4, 10 and 15.
Storbeck shot a 46 on the second day of the tournament to finish with a score of 130. She parred hole Nos. 10, 12, 15 and 18 in her final round.
Jordana Windhorst Knudsen of Lake City was the medalist for the tournament with a score of 114. She edged out Kelby Anderson of International Falls and Elizabeth Fong of Holy Angels Academy by one stroke.
Detroit Lakes won the team portion of the tournament with a score of 486. Lake City was the runner-up with 499.
