Pirates go 1-2 at Pipestone Tournament

The Blue Earth Pirates traveled to Pipestone for a two-day baseball tournament held June 8-9.
After losing two close games on the opening day of the tourney, they salvaged their final game of the weekend with a big win over the host Pipestone A’s.

Pipestone 2
The Pirates scored eight runs in the top of the second inning on their way to a 10-2 victory over the Pipestone A’s in their final game of the tournament on Sunday, June 9.
Kaylan Legred walked with one out and advanced to second on a single by Brayden Barnett. A walk to Tanner Nawrocki loaded the bases with Pirates.
A single by catcher Karson Legred brought Kaylan Legred home with Blue Earth’s first run of the game and brought up the top of the order.
Parker Meyers delivered a ground ball through the middle into center field to drive in Barnett and make the score 2-0 in favor of the Pirates.
Following a strike out, Brandyn Olsen and Garrett Anderson both walked to force in two more runs and bring Zac Schonrock to the plate.
Schonrock’s line-drive single to center drove in Meyers and Olsen to extend the Pirates’ lead to 6-0 with Anderson stopping at third base.
After Schonrock stole second base, a single by Kaylan Legred drove in the final two runs of the inning for an 8-0 Blue Earth lead.
Meanwhile, Parker Eichenberger was doing an effective job on the mound for the Pirates. In six innings of work, Eichenberger was charged with two runs (one earned), on two hits. He issued six walks and struck out six Pipestone batters.
Barnett pitched one inning and did not allow a hit while striking out one batter.
Meyers and Karson Legred each had two hits in the game while Nick Barke, Schonrock and Kaylan Legred each drove in two runs. Barke and Barnett each doubled in the Pirates’ winning effort.
Fox Lake 5, Blue Earth 4
Trailing 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Pirates rallied for four runs but fell one run short of extending the game in a 5-4 loss to the Fox Lake Foxes in their first game of the tournament on June 8.
The Foxes did all of their damage in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pirates in a 5-0 hole.
Parker Meyers led the Pirates on offense with one hit and two runs batted in. Blue Earth was held to only six hits during the game.
Kade Hobbs took the loss for the Pirates. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits while walking one batter and striking out five.
Zac Schonrock worked one inning of scoreless relief. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
Larchwood 3,

Both teams struggled to generate offense but two runs scored by the Larchwood Diamonds in the bottom of the first inning proved to be the difference in the Diamonds’ 3-1 victory over the Pirates in the opening game of the tournament.
Zac Schonrock drove in the only run for Blue Earth in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Logan Jahnke started on the mound for Blue Earth. After surrendering two runs to Larchwood in the first inning, the right-handed pitcher kept the Diamonds off of the scoreboard.
The final numbers for Jahnke showed he pitched five innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out six batters.
Schonrock pitched the sixth inning for the Pirates and gave up one unearned run on one hit. He walked two batters and struck out one.
