Blue Earth pitcher Cody Sukalski, pictured above, entered the game to record the final two outs in the Pirates’ 16-3 victory over the Lake Crystal Lakers.

Parker Meyers, Lee Hodges and TJ Stallman each drove in three runs and Hodges struck out 10 batters in five innings of work to help lead the Blue Earth Pirates to a 16-3, seven-inning victory over the Lake Crystal Lakers in baseball action at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Sunday, June 16.

The win broke a two-game losing streak for the Pirates.

Blue Earth scored five runs in the first inning, five in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth to account for their 16 runs.

Cody Sukalski led off the bottom of the first inning and reached on an error which allowed him to attain second base. Brayden Barnett singled to move Sukalski to third base. Barnett stole second base and Sukalski scored on an error by the catcher.

After a fly out by Brandyn Olsen, Hodges doubled to center field to plate Barnett with the Pirates’ second run. A double by Meyers scored Hodges and a triple by Ryan Madetzke brought Meyers home with the fourth run of the inning.

A ground out by Stallman drove home Madetzke to stake Blue Earth to a 5-0 lead.

More errors by the Lakers and extra-base hits by the Pirates allowed the home team to add five more runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Lake Crystal scored their first run of the game in the top of the third inning before adding two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Hodges picked up the win on the mound. In five innings of work, he gave up three hits and one earned run. He walked one batter in addition to having 10 strikeouts.

Kaylan Legred allowed one hit, walked one batter and had one strikeout in one inning of scoreless relief.

Barnett pitched a third of an inning and gave up two runs. Sukalski came into the game to record the final two outs.

Blue Earth pounded out 13 hits and were led by Meyers who went 4-for-5 with three doubles and a triple. The Pirates’ other extra-base hits included doubles by Sukalski and Hodges and a triple by Madetzke.

Barnett and Hodges each finished with two hits in the game.

Austin 7, Blue Earth 5

The Pirates’ attempt to rally from a six-run deficit fell short and the visiting Austin Greyhounds went home with a victory after defeating Blue Earth 7-5 on Friday, June 14.

The Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning facing a 6-0 deficit, but scored three times to cut the Greyhounds’ lead in half.

Lee Hodges singled to lead off Blue Earth’s half of the fifth inning. Logan O’Hara hit a home run to center field to get the Pirates on the board with two runs.

Zac Schonrock reached first base on a dropped third strike and advanced to second base on an error by the Greyhounds’ catcher.

A single by Kade Hobbs moved Schonrock to third base and Tanner Nawrocki’s single drove Schonrock home with the Pirates’ third run.

Blue Earth added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cut Austin’s lead to 6-5 before the Greyhounds scored once in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 7-5.

Austin outhit Blue Earth by a 14-13 margin.

Hodges and Brandyn Olsen each had three hits for the Pirates and Brayden Barnett had two.

O’Hara finished with two runs batted in courtesy of his two-run homer.

Ryan Vereide took the loss after hurling seven and one third innings. Kade Hobbs entered the game in the eighth inning and pitched the final one and two thirds innings.

Morristown 8,

Blue Earth 4

The Morristown Morries scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie on their way to an 8-4 victory over the Blue Earth Pirates in baseball action at Veterans Field on Wednesday, June 12.

The Morries were leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Pirates scored twice to close the gap to 3-2.

Brayden Barnett reached first base on an error by the center fielder and advanced to third base on a double by Zac Schonrock. A single by Logan Jahnke drove in both runners.

Blue Earth tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Parker Meyers hit a lead-off triple and scored on a single by Cody Sukalski.

Morristown rebounded with three runs in the top of the seventh inning and added one more in the top of the eighth inning to take an 8-3 lead. The Pirates scored once in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 8-4.

Kade Hobbs started on the mound for Blue Earth and took the loss after being charged with six runs (four earned) while giving up 13 hits, two walks and striking out four batters.

Sukalski pitched the final two and two thirds innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four.
