Truman knocks BE/W from Legion playoffs
After team rallied to defeat Wells 4-3 in first elimination game
The Blue Earth/Winnebago Legion baseball team had opened the Legion baseball playoffs with a 4-3 win over the Maple River Legion team to advance to the double elimination round of the tournament.
BE/W then lost to Mankato Loyola 5-4 to move into the elimination round against Wells.
They defeated Wells 4-3 to earn the right to play the Truman Jaguars Legion team.
An 8-5 loss to the Jaguars eliminated BE/W from the tournament. No details were available for that game.

BE/W suffered a tough loss against Mankato Loyola in a game played at Eagle Lake on July 11.
BE/W led by one run going into the final inning of the contest but Mankato Loyola scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up and send the contest into extra innings.
BE/W was unable to score in the top of the eighth inning and Mankato Loyola scored in the bottom of the inning to gain a walk off win by a 5-4 score.
Caleb Langager led off the top of the first inning for BE/W and ended up on second base after his ground ball to the shortstop was misplayed for an error.
After moving to third base on a passed ball, Langager scored on an infield error on a ball hit by Taylor Davids which allowed Davids to reach second base.
A single by Peyton O’Hara advanced Davids to third base and a single by Noah Dahl brought Davids home and gave BE/W a 2-0 lead.
Mankato Loyola scored once in the bottom of the first inning to cut BE/W’s lead in half at 2-1.
Loyola added two more runs to their total in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead over BE/W.
After a scoreless fourth inning, BE/W scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
Branson Hauskins led off the fifth inning for BE/W with a single and then stole second base. Following a strikeout, Hayden Veriede reached first base on an infield single to the shortstop to put runners on first and third base.
A line drive double by Carter Rosenau to right field drove in both Hauskins and Vereide to put BE/W back on top 4-3.
Unfortunately, Loyola rallied to win the game 5-4 and give BE/W their first loss of the tournament.
Dahl pitched six innings and was charged with three runs (all earned). He allowed eight hits, walked three batters and struck out eight.
Caleb Langager threw one and a third innings and gave up one earned run on one hit while walking one batter and striking out two.
Hayden Vereide pitched one third of an inning and gave up one run, one hit and three walks.

After losing to Mankato Loyola the previous day, BE/W met Wells in an elimination game on Friday, July 12.
Wells held a 3-1 lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when BE/W scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. BE/W then held Wells scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to claim the victory.
BE/W got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Carter Rosenau walked with one out, stole second base, went to third on a balk by the Wells pitcher and scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Davids.
Wells scored all three of their runs in the top of the second inning to lead BE/W 3-1 – a lead they held until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Peyton O’Hara led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and was followed by singles from Noah Dahl and Matthew Klabunde to load the bases with zero outs.
A grounder by Branson Hauskins to the shortstop resulted in O’Hara being thrown out at home with the bases remaining loaded.
A walk to Brayden Rhey drove in Dahl with the first run of the inning. Noah Barnett came through with a double to score Klabunde and Hauskins to put BE/W on top 4-3.
Caleb Langager pitched six stellar innings. He gave up three runs (none earned) on five hits. He walked three batters and struck out 11.
Hauskins pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up a save. He gave up a one-out double but stranded the Wells runner by getting the second out on a ground out to shortstop Taylor Davids before striking out the next batter to end the game.
BE/W’s game against Truman was played later the same day with the Jaguars winning 8-5 to eliminate BE/W from the playoffs.
