Bucs sweep quadrangular tennis meet

Defeat Sibley East, Glencoe-Silver Lake and United South Central

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team participated in a quadrangular meet with Sibley East, United South Central and Glencoe-Silver Lake last Tuesday, Aug. 20, and came away with a 3-0 record for the day.

“I went into the day thinking if we could win two of the three contests it would be a good day,” BEA head coach Spencer Monson said. “So, to win all three made it a great day.”

The Bucs defeated Sibley East and GSL by identical 5-2 scores and won by a narrow 4-3 victory over USC.

“It was a very good tournament for us with four very evenly matched squads,” Monson commented. “It provided a good opportunity for us to grow as a team.”

The Bucs won three of the four singles matches against the Wolverines.

Grace Hanson of the Bucs defeated Morgan Johnson in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4.

Playing at No. 3 singles, BEA’s Addison Prescher defeated Hannah Bartlette in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Abby Lorenz picked up the third win in singles for BEA with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lydia Harmon at No. 4 singles. Morgan Haggenmiller of Sibley East was able to down Carol Schrader at No. 2 singles by a 6-3, 6-3 score.

Sibley East picked up their other win at No. 1 doubles when Ady Beneke and Tessa McCracken won by a 6-1, 6-2 score over Erin Prescher and Abigail Greff.

At No. 2 doubles, Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau of the Bucs downed Macey Thoele and Addie Cowell 6-4, 7-5.

BEA’s McKinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck picked up BEA’s final win by defeating Taylor Moos and Kylah Olson 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.

BEA 5, GSL 2

The Buccaneers tamed the Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers 5-2.

BEA won three of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches in claiming their 5-2 victory.

Addison Prescher produced a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Finley Guerrero at No. 2 singles.

Abby Lorenz won the No. 3 singles match over Eva Stuewe 4-6, 6-2, 13-11.

At No. 4 singles, BEA’s Abigail Greff defeated Abby Smith 6-4, 6-2.

GSL’s Anna Sievert triumphed over Grace Hanson in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1.

Carol Schrader and Erin Prescher of the Bucs were victorious over Abigail Ziegler and Mariah Gutknecht in the No. 1 doubles match, winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-2.

BEA’s No. 2 doubles team of Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau crafted a 6-4,7-5 win over GSL’s Abby Christensen and Jadyn Stuewe.

In the No. 3 doubles match, it was GSL’s Sophie Groe and Addison Nott defeating McKinley Hanson and Katelyn 7-6, 6-4.

BEA 4, USC 3

It was the closest match of the day for Blue Earth Area but they went home with a narrow 4-3 win over the United South Central Rebels.

BEA’s Grace Hanson defeated Olivia Bungum in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4.

The Rebels’ Lauren Hansen won the No. 2 singles match over Carol Schrader 6-4, 6-1.

Addison Prescher picked up her third win of the day when she won 6-1, 6-4 over USC’s Ivy O’Rourke at No. 3 singles.

In the No. 4 singles match, the Bucs’ Abby Lorenz won her third match of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kylee Koziolek.

USC picked up two wins in the doubles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, USC’s Brylee Neubauer and Addison Mithun defeated Abigail Greff and Erin Prescher 7-5, 6-1.

The No. 2 doubles match also went to USC when Maya Hansen and Julianna Clore won both sets over Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau by identical 6-4 scores.

BEA picked up the fourth and deciding victory in the No. 3 doubles match when McKinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck triumphed over Lydia Hartman and Caitlin Rheingans 6-2, 6-4.
