USC splits with Mankato teams in tennis

The United South Central tennis team traveled to Mankato on Friday, Aug. 30, and took on both Mankato high schools in two matches.

The Rebels split, defeating Mankato West 6-1, but falling to Mankato East/Loyola by a score of 5-2.

Against Mankato West, USC swept all four singles matches.

Brylee Neubauer defeated Monir McCabe by scores of 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Olivia Bungum downed Claire Roering 6-0, 6-1.

Maya Hansen shut down her No. 3 singles opponent, Claire Heimer, 6-0, 6-0. Ivy O’Rourke did the same thing, winning 6-0, 6-0, over Neva Boel at No. 4 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, USC’s Lauren Hansen and Addison Mithun downed Alayna Johnson and Clara Hanke of West 6-2, 7-5.

Juliana Clore and Kylee Koziolek of USC were defeated by Gianna Alosio and Maleah Giesen 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.

And, at No. 3 doubles, the Rebel duo of Caitlin Rheingans and Elise Hansen downed Jenna Haman and Maren Haugen, 6-2, 6-1.

Against Mankato East/Loyola, USC split the singles matches, 2-2, but lost all three doubles matches.

Olivia Bungum, at No. 2 singles, downed Autumn Gaul of ME/L by scores of 6-3, 7-5. And, at No. 4 singles, USC’s Ivy O’Rourke won a marathon match over Lexi Mock, 2-6, 6-3, 11-9.

At No. 1 singles, Brylee Neubauer lost 6-0, 6-0, to Sam Williams, and at No. 3 singles, Maya Hansen lost 6-1, 6-3, to August Beltz.

The No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Hansen and Addison Mithun fell 6-1, 6-1, to Addie Wassman and Ashlyn Rigdon.

No. 2 doubles team of Julianna Clore and Kylee Koziolek lost 6-0, 6-0, to Hannah Westman and Sydney Cusick, and the Rebels No. 3 doubles team of Caitlin Rheingans and Elise Hansen was defeated by Amelia Hacker and Emily Hacker by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

The Rebels will host Austin and Albert Lea on Saturday, Sept. 7.
