BEA girls win over TCU and Albert Lea

But are defeated by highly ranked St. James Saints squad 6-1

BEA’s No. 3 singles player, Abbey Lorenz, hits a forehand return in her tennis match against TCU’s Reagan Steffen. Lorenz defeated Steffen 6-4, 6-1 and the Bucs downed the Titans 7-0 on Sept. 10.

James, the Blue Earth Area girls tennis team put another notch in the win column when they shut out the Tri City/Cleveland Titans 7-0 at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

All four of the singles matches required only two sets. However, two of the three doubles matches required a third set to determine the winner.

At No. 1 singles, Grace Hanson triumphed over Ellie Adams 6-1, 6-3.

Addison Prescher lost only one game during her No. 2 singles match against Anne Cooper while cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Abbey Lorenz won the first set of her No. 3 singles match against Reagan Steffen by a narrow 6-4 margin before winning the second set 6-1.

Abigail Greff completed the sweep of the singles matches by defeating Destynee Wolff at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-4.

BEA’s No. 1 tandem of Carol Schrader and Erin Prescher won their match in straight sets over Ava Flintrop and Avery Lerfald 6-4, 6-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau dropped the first set of their match against Addison Houn and Cristina Cruz with the Tri-City/Cleveland pair winning by a 6-1 score. However, Schavey and Rosenau rebounded to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-4.

It also took three sets for the No. 3 doubles match to be decided. The Titans’ Hallie Holicky and Camryn Holicky rallied from an early deficit in the first set to beat BEA’s McKinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck 7-5. Hanson and Storbeck won a hard-fought second set 7-6 (5) and then completed the victory by winning a third-set tie breaker 10-7.

With the win the Bucs improved their record to 10 wins and four losses.

St. James 6, BEA 1

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team’s nine-game winning streak came to a screeching halt when they traveled to St. James to take on the Saints on Monday, Sept. 9.

The Saints, who are ranked sixth in Class A in the latest Minnesota Tennis Coaches Association poll, defeated the Bucs by a 6-1 score.

The only match won by the Maroon and Gold came in the No. 3 doubles match where Brooklyn Rosenau and Grace Schavey defeated Maren Bluedorn and Julia Westman in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.

At No. 1 doubles, Alivia Romsdahl and Ellie Anderson of the Saints were victorious over Erin Prescher and Carol Schrader 6-4, 6-2.

St. James got the win in the No. 2 doubles match when Valeria Aguilar and Ruby Ciske topped Abbey Lorenz and Abigail Greff 6-0, 6-0.

The Saints swept all four singles matches.

Keyana Haler downed Grace Hanson in the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, Elizabeth Shores won over Addison Prescher 6-1, 6-1.

Ellie Romsdahl triumphed in the No. 3 singles match over McKinley Hanson 6-3, 6-2.

Dani Trapero was victorious in the No. 4 singles match over Katelyn Storbeck 6-1, 6-0.

BEA 7, Albert Lea 0

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team picked up another victory on Sept. 5 when they traveled to Albert Lea and declawed the Tigers 7-0.

After opening the season with three losses, the Bucs have reeled off nine consecutive wins for a 9-3 record.

Grace Hanson won in straight sets over Bree Weilage in the No. 1 singles match. The scores were close with Hanson prevailing 7-6, 6-4.

Addison Prescher lost only two games in winning her No. 2 singles match over Kallie Studier 6-1, 6-1.

In the No. 3 singles match, the Bucs’ Abbey Lorenz was victorious over Gaby Tufte 6-4, 6-1.

The No. 4 singles match paired BEA’s Abigail Greff against Albert Lea’s Vivian Nguyen. Nguyen won the first set 6-2 but Greff rallied to win the match by taking the next two sets 6-2, 6-2.

Carol Schrader and Erin Prescher got the win in the No. 1 doubles match by defeating Emery Nelson and Ellery Schewe 6-2, 6-2.

It took three sets, but the Bucs’ Grace Schavey and Brooke Rosenau were victorious in their No. 2 doubles match over Brooke Tufte and Anna Shaw 6-0, 2-6, 6-2.

Katelyn Storbeck and McKinley Hanson completed the shutout by winning their No. 3 doubles match over Paige Rasmussen and Lauren Schuhmacher 6-4, 6-4.
