The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers were on the road again on Sept. 16, for a girls tennis match against the River Valley Wildcats.

Addison Prescher of the Bucs dispatched Jillian Mays in the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0.

Abigail Greff picked up a win for BEA in the No. 4 singles match by defeating Tori Matter in two sets, 6-1, 6-1.

River Valley’s only win came in the No. 1 singles match when Brissa Hernandez defeated Grace Hanson 6-2, 7-6 (7).

BEA 4, Belle Plaine 3

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers edged the Belle Paine Tigers 4-3 in girls tennis on Sept. 12.

Playing on the Tigers’ home court, the Bucs won three of the four singles matches and one of the doubles matches to secure the win.

“It was a great team win for us against a really good Belle Plaine team,” BEA tennis coach Spencer Monson said. “Every one or our players played some of their best tennis of the season.”

Grace Hanson picked up the win for BEA at No. 1 singles by a 6-0, 6-2, score over Kayla Streich of Belle Plaine.

The Bucs’ Addison Prescher continued her fine season with a 6-2, 6-2, triumph over Nina Messer in the No. 2 singles match.

Belle Plaine picked up their only singles win at No. 3 singles when Olivia Walter got by Abbey Lorenz 6-3, 6-3.

BEA’s Abigail Greff recorded the Bucs’ third win of the day with a 6-3, 6-4, victory over Cora Rosenwinkel.

The No. 1 doubles match went to Belle Plaine with Alyssa Schumacher and Lydia Sparby getting by Erin Prescher and Carol Schrader 7-6 (6), 6-1.

The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches each took three sets to determine a victor.

Belle Plaine’s Sophia Kruschke and Ella Thorstad defeated BEA’s Grace Schavey and Brooklyn Rosenau 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The Bucs’ No. 3 tandem of McKinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck lost the first set when the Tigers’ Olivia Endres and Taylor Menke held on for a 6-4 win. Hanson and Storbeck countered with their own 6-4 win in the second set.

The third doubles match lasted three and a half hours and the BEA duo fell behind 0-3 to begin the third and deciding set. However, Hanson and Storbeck overcame the three game deficit and came out on top 7-5 in the final set to win their match and secure the victory for the Bucs.

“The whole match had a post-season type feel to it, especially when the match was tied 3-3 and the No. 3 doubles match was in the third set,” Monson commented. “Kate and McKinley showed a lot of mental toughness to be able to keep their composure and find a win in that type of environment.”
