USC tennis team loses 5-2 to Sibley East

After defeating the Fairmont Cardinals in a close 4-3 match

The United South Central girls tennis team won the match at No. 1 singles and the one at No. 1 doubles, but those were the only two as they went on to lose to Sibley East-Arlington on Tuesday, Sept. 17, by a 5-2 score.

USC’s Brylee Nuebauer downed Morgan Johnson by scores of 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.

Lauren Hansen and Addison Mithun teamed up to take on Tessa McCracken and Ady Beneke. The two Rebels won at No. 2 doubles by scores of 7-5, 6-1.

Olivia Bungum lost 6-3, 6-3, to Morgan Haggenmiller at No. 2 singles. USC’s Kylee Koziolek lost 6-1, 6-1, to Hannah Bartlette at No. 3 singles. And, at No. 4 singles, the Rebels’ Elise Hansen lost 6-3, 6-3, to Amelia Odenthal.

USC’s No. 2 doubles team of Maya Hansen and Ivy O’Rourke lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, to Macey Thoele and Addie Cowell.

At No. 3 doubles, USC’s Julianna Chlore and Caitlin Rheingans were also in a three set battle and won the first set, but lost the next two, 1-6, 7-5. 6-2.

Next up for the Rebels was a match at home against Maple River on Thursday, Sept. 19, and taking on Redwood Valley there on Saturday, Sept. 21.

This week they play at Blue Earth Area on Monday, Sept. 23, and then host Tri-City United on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and travel to Le Sueur-Henderson on Thursday, Sept. 26 for their final regular season match.

USC 4, Fairmont 3

The United South Central Rebels girls’ tennis team won two of the four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches on their way to a 4-3 victory over the Fairmont Cardinals on Monday, Sept. 16.

Olivia Bungum, at No. 3 singles, downed Fairmont’s Ella Wubbena, 6-4, 6-2. USC’s Ivy O’Rourke, at No. 4 singles, defeated Carly Gustafson 7-5, 6-2.

The Rebels’ No. 1 doubles team of Addison Mithun and Maya Hansen downed Madisyn Peyman and Claire Brockman 7-6 (5), 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles USC’s Juliana Clore and Caitlin Rheingans defeated Samantha Thatcher and Cailwyn Jobe 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-2.

The Rebels’ No. 3 doubles duo of Kylee Koziolek and Elise Hansen fell 6-2, 6-3 to Fairmont’s Madysen tonne and Katherine Zelaya.

USC’s No. 1 singles player, Brylee Nuebauer, lost to Emelia Klanderud 6-2, 6-1, and the Rebels’ Lauren Hansen fell 6-3, 6-4, to Alison Slama at No. 2 singles.

Cannon Falls 4, USC 3

The United South Central tennis team lost a close one to Cannon Falls in a match in Faribault on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The Rebels ended up losing 4-3. The Rebels won two of the four singles matches and just one of the three doubles matches.

At No. 3 singles, Lauren Hansen of USC took a 6-1, 6-4, win over Miranda Mandelkow of Cannon Falls. At No. 4 singles it was USC’s Ivy O’Rourke who defeated Dani Jeseritz of Cannon Falls, 6-4, 6-4.

The Rebels’ No. 1 doubles team of Maya Hansen and Addison Mithun teamed up to defeat Sophia Nerison and Abby Roepke of Cannon Falls by scores of 7-5, 6-0.

USC’s Brylee Neubauer lost a three set battle, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, to Josie Sjoquist at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles it was Olivia Bungum who lost another marathon match, 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-3, to Livia Tennessen.

Julianna Clore and Caitlin Rheingans lost to Cannon Falls’ Cami Anderson and Noelle Swenson by 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles and Kylee Koziolek and Elise Hansen lost 6-3, 6-1, to Malena Mandelkow and Jullian Sjoquist at No. 3 doubles.
