The United South Central Rebels’ football team scored early and often on Friday night, Sept. 20, against the Medford Tigers, and came away with a big 44-6 victory.

The Rebels scored three times in the first quarter and once each in the second, third and fourth quarters.

In fact, their first TD came at the very beginning of the game. Dylan Bonsack took the opening kickoff at his own 19 yard line and returned it 81 yards for a touchdown.

Byron Getchell ran the ball in for the two-point conversion and the Rebels were quickly up 8-0.

USC’s second TD came after just two plays, and again it was Bonsack who ran the ball in for a 19 yard score. It was also Getchell who again ran the ball in for the two-point conversion and the Rebels were up 16-0.

Their third TD of the first quarter came at the end of a 38 yard, six-play drive down the field. This time it was Getchell who scored on a three-yard scamper into the end zone.

Kolt Bullerman passed to Nathan Mutschler for the two point conversion, and USC led 24-0.

In the second quarter, Medford scored on an 8-play, 76 yard drive. The TD came on a five yard pass play. A pass attempt for the two-point conversion was incomplete.

USC responded with their own touchdown score in the second quarter. It came after a 7-play, 52-yard drive down the field and came with 6:58 left in the first half.

Getchell scored it on a 10-yard run into the end zone. This time a pass for the two point conversion was incomplete.

The Rebels led 30-6 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Rebels scored on a 13-yard run into the end zone by Getchell. The two-point conversion was good when Avery Crawford handed the ball off to Gavin Bird for the extra points.

The fourth quarter score was a 30-yard run when Brody Steinhauer handed the ball off to Caleb Satre who ran it in. The extra point try was a run attempt that failed.

That made the final score 44-6.

The Rebels led in almost all of the stats. They had 17 first downs to the Tigers’ 10, gained 271 yards rushing to their 106, 274 total yards to their 182 and had 41 plays to their 35.

Medford only topped USC in passing yards, getting 76 to their three. Bullerman was 1 for 2 passing for three yards, on a pass to Bonsack.

Getchell led in rushing with 66 yards on seven attempts and Bonsack also had a good night rushing with 54 yards on seven attempts. Bullerman had 46 yards on five totes, Steinhauer had 30 yards on one run, Bird added 19 on five tries and Gonzalez also had 19 yards on two tries. Seth Kayser had one 12 yard run.

The Rebels had no fumbles or interceptions and only punted one time in the game.

The Rebels next game was their homecoming game, when they hosted Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Friday night, Sept. 27. Details and photos from that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.

This week USC plays at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Friday night, Oct. 4.
