The Blue Earth Area cross country teams traveled to the Prairie Ridge Golf Course near Janesville on Sept. 26 to compete in the Grizzly Pie Invite.

The girls team placed second in the six-team event while the BEA boys finished fourth.

Girls Results

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton placed first with a team score of 43. BEA was second with 74, Randolph took third with 80, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva was fourth with 87, Medford placed fifth with 105 and United South Central/Alden-Conger was sixth with 116.

Aubrey Woodwick was the top finisher for the BEA girls with a season-best time of 22:28 which put her in fifth place.

Sydney Eitzmann placed seventh when she crossed the finish line in 23:14.

“The night started off with a great race by the girls varsity team,” BEA coach Peter Koenig remarked. “Aubrey ran a season best and earned a pie for the effort. Sidney ran strong to place seventh and earn a cookie.”

Natalie Griffey, running in only her second varsity race of the season, finished in 16th place with a time of 25:02.

April Garcia was 39th in 29:20, Myla Eastman was 44th in 31:12, Makayla Ankeny was 47th in 32:59 and Aniliz Leal was 51st with a personal-record time of 36:35.

In the junior high race, Sakura Harding ran to an eighth place finish with a personal-record time of 13:21.

Boys Results

United South Central/Alden-Conger captured first place for the boys with a score of 60. Randolph was the runner-up with 65 and Blooming Prairie was third with 69. BEA had a solid fourth-place finish with a score of 84, Medford was fifth with 102 and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton placed sixth with 108.

Devin Haase paced the Bucs with a season-best time of 20:46 to finish in 11th place. Also recording a season-best time was Marcus Eckles who placed 16th with a time of 21:53.

Samuel Bell recorded a personal-best time of 23:36 to finish in 27th place. Michael Vaske was 41st in 25:51 and Noah Hanson was 43rd in 26:28.

“It was nice to see so many personal records and season bests by the boys today,” Koenig commented. “Devin had a great race with a heck of a finish and Marcus just missed out on being in the top 15 by a very narrow margin.”

The boys had three runners compete in the junior high race and all three recorded new personal-record times. Brayden Garlick was ninth in 11:39, Gus Ankeny was 10th in 11:42 and Harrison Patten was 20th in 14:35.

The cross country teams ran at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont on Thursday, Oct. 3. Check next week’s Faribault County Register for the results of that meet.
