USC loses homecoming game to WEM 34-6

It was a rough homecoming game for the United South Central Rebels when they took on the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers on Friday night, Sept. 27,

The Bucs scored 28 points in the first half on their way to a 34-6 win over the Rebels.

USC’s only score came in the fourth quarter when they got into the end zone on a 12 play, 65-yard drive with 7:58 left in the game.

Shaune Peterson took the ball in from the 13-yard line and took it into the end zone for the score. An attempt at a two-point conversion failed when Noah Gonzalez took a hand off from Peterson but was stopped at the one-yard line.

WEM scored on a five-yard run with a two point conversion, a 73-yard run with a PAT, a six-yard run with a missed extra point and a 29-yard run with a missed extra point.

The Bucs led 15-0 after one quarter, 28-0 at half, 34-0 at the end of three quarters.

WEM out rushed USC 360 yards to 150. Neither team had a lot of passing yards with the Bucs gaining 30 and the Rebels 16.

The Rebels’ Kolt Bullerman attempted six passes, and connected on one for 15 yards to Byron Getchell. Brody Steinhauer hit on one pass attempt for one yard to Peterson.

Getchell was also the leading Rebel rusher with 29 yards on six carries. Gavin Bird gained 21 yards on six totes, while Steinhauer and Josey Schroeder each had 18 yards on three attempts.

Dylan Bonsack had 17 yards on seven attempts, Gonzalez had 16 yards on two tries, Peterson 15 yards on two totes, Bullerman 10 yards on two attempts and Anthony Cardoza six yards on two runs.

WEM had 15 first downs to USC’s eight, 390 yards of total offense to the Rebels’ 166 and only two punts to USC’s two.

The Rebels led in two stats columns. USC had 42 total plays to WEM’s 35, and had the ball for 28:56 to the Bucs’ 19:04.

The Rebels next game was set for Friday night, Oct. 4, when they traveled to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. Details on that game will be in the next Faribault County Register.

This week they will play a Thursday night game, on Oct. 10 at St. Clair. Their next game will be on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they host New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
