Girls compete at Section 2A Meet
Eight BEA and USC tennis players played in singles and doubles tourney
With their teams eliminated from the Section 2A Team Tennis Tournament, players from Blue Earth Area and United South Central returned to the court on Friday, Oct. 4, to compete in the Section 2A Individual Tournament.
Addison Prescher of BEA won her opening round singles match against USC’s Ivy O’Rourke 6-2, 6-3.
Prescher was knocked out of the competition in the second round by Elizabeth Shores of St. James who defeated Prescher 6-2, 6-2.
The Bucs’ Abbey Lorenz also had a first round win when she triumphed over the Rebels’ Lauren Hansen 6-4, 7-5.
In the second round, Keyana Haler was victorious over Lorenz 6-0, 6-1. The loss eliminated Lorenz from the tournament.
In doubles action, USC’s Brylee Neubauer and Ava Bungum joined forces to win their opening round match over Kaelynn Welsh and Grace Blare of Redwood Valley 6-0, 6-0.
In the second round, Maple Rivers’ Macy Sohre and Kelsey Jaeger triumphed over Neubauer and Bungum 6-4, 6-0. The loss eliminated Neubauer and Bungum from the tournament.
BEA’s usual No. 1 singles player, Grace Hanson, teamed up with Carol Schrader to compete in the doubles portion of the tournament and the pair won their opening round match over Dani Junker and Chloe Okerman of River Valley 6-0, 6-1.
Hanson and Schrader faced off against Alivia Romsdahl and Ellie Anderson of St. James in the second round.
The St. James duo won the first set 6-4. However, Hanson and Schrader evened the match at one set apiece when they won the second set 7-5. In the third and deciding set, Romsdahl and Anderson came out on top 6-3 to win the match and eliminate Hanson and Schrader from the competition.
