USC wins defensive battle over NRHEG
After defeating St. Clair/Loyola 38-7 in dominating fashion

USC quarterback Kolt Bullerman tries to evade the defenders from Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a game played earlier this season. The Rebels ended the regular season with a three-game winning streak.
The United South Central Rebels football team only managed to score one touchdown in their game against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Wednesday night, Oct. 16.
But that one score was enough, as the Rebels shut out the Panthers 8-0.
The only score of the game came in the second quarter on a seven-play, 60-yard drive by USC. The drive culminated with a 10-yard run for the touchdown by Byron Getchell.
The try for extra point was also a run by Getchell, who took the hand off from quarterback Kolt Bullerman and took the ball into the end zone for a two point conversion.
The entire rest of the game was pretty much a defensive battle, on both sides of the ball.
NRHEG’s 10 possessions of the football ended with three punts, four turning it over on downs, two interceptions and one lost fumble.
One of their drives went for a negative 10 yards and another went for no yards.
The Rebels also had some trouble, and were forced to punt four times and turned the ball over on downs three times, and also lost one fumble.
The Rebels were up over the Panthers in most of the major stats, except one. NRHEG outgained USC in passing yards 51 to 0.

Getchell was the leading rusher for the Rebels, gaining 70 yards on 19 carries. Dylan Bonsack was right behind, picking up 66 yards on 16 carries, his longest run going for 25 yards.
Gavin Bird had nine runs and gained 48 yards. Bullerman ran for 11 yards on five attempts.
Bullerman and Getchell each attempted two passes and none were completed.
USC 38,
St. Clair Loyola 7
The United South Central ground attack did some major damage against the host St. Clair/Loyola Spartans racking up 321 yards on the ground, while the Rebels’ defense held the Spartans to only 11 rushing yards.
USC’s dominance resulted in a 38-7 victory for the Rebels, who improved their season record to four wins and three losses.
The Rebels scored the first four times they had the ball.
USC won the coin toss and elected to receive. They began their first drive on their own 31-yard line and drove the ball 69 yards in 13 plays with Byron Getchell scoring the touchdown on a three-yard run. The two-point conversion failed and USC led 6-0 with 3:04 left to play in the opening quarter.
The Spartans took the kickoff and got one first down before punting the ball back to the Rebels.
USC began their next drive on their 20-yard line. They were held for no gain on the first play of the drive and were thrown for a two-yard loss on the second play.
Facing third down and needing 12 yards for a first down, the Rebels got what they needed and more when quarterback Kolt Bullerman completed a pass to Nathan Mutschler at the 23-yard line only to watch the speedy Mutschler break free for an 82-yard touchdown play. The two point conversion was no good and USC led 12-0 with 1:31 remaining in the first half.
The Spartans’ next possession ended when they fumbled the ball and the Rebels’ Brayden Mithun recovered the ball at the St. Clair/Loyola 35-yard line.
Five plays later USC scored again when running back Dylan Bonsack carried the ball into the end zone from seven yards out. Getchell completed a pass to Bonsack for the two-point conversion and the Rebels increased their lead to 20-0 with 9:45 to go until halftime.
USC was not done adding to their first-half score and with 1:46 left on the clock in the second quarter, Getchell plowed across the goal line for a four-yard touchdown run to cap a 10-play 80-yard touchdown drive and increase the Rebels’ lead to 26-0.
By the time the horn sounded to signal the end of the game, USC had scored 12 more points to seven for St. Clair/Loyola to make the final score 38-0.
In addition to the 321 yards the Rebels gained on the ground, they also had 82 yards passing for a total of 403 yards.
Meanwhile, the Spartans had 140 yards in the air to add to their 11 rushing yards for a total of 151 yards.
