Rebels lose home boys basketball opener

The United South Central Rebels boys basketball team opened their season with a home game against the Martin County West Mavericks on Monday, Dec. 2.
Despite having three players hit double figures in scoring, the Rebels fell to the Mavericks by a score of 73-54.
The score at the end of the first half was 30-18 in favor of MCW.
Dylan Stephens led the Rebels with 15 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.
Zayden Schott had 11 points and four assists. Dylan Bonsack had 10 points and also led the team in rebounds with 10, for a double-double.
The Mavericks were led by Kale Larson with 25 points and Jacob Wilmes who had 14.
As a team the Rebels were 9 of 25 (36 percent) from two-point range and nine of 22 (41 percent) from three point range. They made nine of 19 free throws for 47 percent.
The Mavericks were 19 of 32 for shots inside the arc (59 percent) and 10 of 30 for outside the arc (33 percent). They hit 5 of 9 free throws (56 percent).
The Rebels trailed the Mavericks in almost all the stats, including getting 28 rebounds to their 34, 13 assists to their 21, no blocks to their six and 18 turnovers to their 11. USC did have seven steals to MCW’s six.
Next up for the Rebels was a game at Faribault Bethlehem Academy set for Friday, Dec. 6.
This week they play at Maple River on Tuesday, Dec. 10, before returning home to host Triton on Friday, Dec. 13.
