Perhaps the Blue Earth Area gymnastics team should have the nickname, “The Road Warriors.”

A month and a half and five gymnastics meets into the season and the Bucs have yet to perform in front of their home audience.

Last Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Bucs continued their tour across southern Minnesota with a trip to Pipestone to take on the Arrows. It was a close meet with Pipestone winning by less than two points, 129.325-127.5.

“Our schedule is really ramping up this month and we are just trying to keep the girls healthy,” BEA coach Rachel Cole said. “We have been dealing with a few injuries, but overall, things have been going well.

The team hit its season high scoring mark at Pipestone.

“The girls shined on vault and hit well on beam, only having to count two team falls on varsity,” Cole commented. “We just need to get more numbers in at practice to build our confidence.”

Tailor Douglas finished third on vault with an 8.875. Finishing in fifth with 8.4 was Kyanna Brandt. Sixth was Cassandra Hagedorn with 8.275 and Taylynn Amundson was eighth with 7.75.

Parker Stallman was the top BEA scorer on bars with a 7.9 which put her in second place. Brynlee Amundson was fifth with a 7.3, Douglas was sixth with 7.225, MaLeah Osmundson was eighth with 7.025 and Audrey Schonborn was ninth with 5.7.

Douglas placed second on beam with 8.45, Osmundson and Stallman tied for third with 8.2, Sidney Eitzmann was sixth with 7.2 and Brandt was seventh with 6.85.

Douglas was also second on floor with an 8.3. Osmundson was fourth with 8.025, Kalley Boettcher was sixth with 7.925, Taylynn Amundson was eighth with 7.575 and Brynlee Amundson was ninth with 7.375.

The all-around scores showed Douglas in second place with 32.850 and Osmundson was fourth with 31.875. Those were the only two Buccaneer gymnasts who competed in all four events

JV Results

The Bucs won the junior varsity meet 116.95 to 108.6.

“The junior varsity girls keep improving,” Cole said. “They improved by almost seven points to hit a season high total against the Arrows.

The junior varsity claimed three of the top five spots in the all-around.

Kloe McGowan claimed the all-around title with a score of 29. Amaya Mensing was third with 26.8 and Ella Schonborn was fourth with 26.2.

MCA Invitational

The Bucs place fifth out of five teams at the MCA Invitational held in Fairmont on Jan. 4.

Austin won the tournament with a score of 135.25, Waseca was second with 131.4. Martin County Area was third with 130.825, Jackson County Central was fourth with 125.525 and BEA was fifth with 124.925.

“It was our first meet back after break,” BEA head coach Rachel Cole said. “We showed off some new skills and/or connections.”

Those Bucs who finished in the top-10 in the individual events are listed below.

In vault, Parker Stallman finished in ninth place with an 8.425 and Tailor Douglas was 10th with 8.4.

Bars saw Douglas take sixth place with a 7.875 and Stallman finish eighth with 7.75.

Kyannah Brandt was eighth on beam with 7.95 and Douglas was 10th with 7.825.

Douglas was eighth in floor with an 8.4.

The all-around saw Douglas finish in seventh place with a score of 32.5. Stallman was 11th with 31.15 and MaLeah Osmundson was 17th with 30.175.

JV Results

The BEA junior varsity placed first with a score of 111.450 to finish ahead of Martin County Area who was second with 107.85.

Cassandra Hagedorn was second in the all-around with 29.55, Amaya Mensing was fourth with 25.95, Taylynn Amundson was seventh with 20.6 and Audrey Schonborn was 11th with 18.6.
