Myla Eastman (21) gets a shot off over the St. James Area defender during a game played earlier this season in Blue Earth.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers did not have an answer for Pipestone’s Jadyn Kor when the two teams met in a girls basketball game in Pipestone on Friday, Jan. 10.

Kor scored 18 of the Arrows’ 37 first half points and Pipestone went on to defeat BEA 75-50 in a Big South Conference contest.

The Bucs’ Carol Schrader got her team on the board first when she drained a 3-pointer on BEA’s first possession. Following a Pipestone basket, Lola Lundquist made a shot from the free-throw line to give the Bucs a 5-2 lead.

After Pipestone scored to narrow BEA’s lead to one point, Kor began her assault on the basket. The 5-foot-10 junior hit four shots from behind the arc in the first half to help the Arrows build a 37-26 halftime lead.

BEA’s Lundquist and Elaena Schiltz were the top scorers in the first half with Lundquist totaling nine points in the first 18 minutes of play while Schiltz added seven. Lundquist did most of her damage from the outside while Schiltz was the recipient of some nice assists which led to some easy baskets underneath.

Kor continued her hot shooting in the second half and added 23 more points to her first-half total to finish with 39 points for the game.

The Arrows eventually increased their lead to 34 points before being outscored by the Bucs 12-3 in the closing minutes to make the final score 75-50 in Pipestone’s favor.

Lundquist led the Bucs with 22 points while Schiltz finished with nine.

The girls played at Jackson on Jan. 16 and at Maple River on Jan. 17.
