BEA comes up short against MVL Chargers

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers girls basketball team was defeated by the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Blue Earth.

MVL took a 34-27 lead at the half on their way to a 54-46 victory over BEA.

The Bucs outscored the Chargers 22-17 in the second half but were unable to rally past their opponent.

BEA was 17-for-44 (38.6 percent) on their 2-point attempts, 3-for-27 (11.1 percent) on their 3-point shots and 3-for-4 (75 percent) on their free-throw attempts.

MVL made 16 of their 39 (41 percent) of their shots from inside the arc and were 6-for-24 (25 percent) from outside the arc. The Chargers made half of their eight free throw attempts.

The Bucs outrebounded the Chargers by a 49-47 margin while turnovers were even with each team committing 21.

Lola Lundquist led BEA with 16 points followed by Myla Eastman with 11.

Maple River 56, BEA 38

The Bucs got off to a slow start when they traveled to Mapleton on Jan. 17 to take on the Eagles.

Maple River jumped out to an early 21-3 lead to take a 38-23 lead at the end of the first half. The Eagles outscored the Bucs 18-15 in the final stanza for a 56-38 victory.

BEA started off the game having trouble putting the ball through the hoop until later in the first half.

Trailing 29-6, the Bucs outscored the Eagles 17-9 in the final minutes of the opening stanza to cut Maple River’s advantage to 15 points.

The Bucs shot 22.2 percent (8-for-36) from 2-point range, 20.8 percent (5-for-24) from 3-point range and 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the free-throw line.

The Eagles had a 54-35 advantage in rebounding.

BEA committed 12 turnovers compared to 14 for Maple River.

Lundquist was the only Buc to reach double figures in scoring with 23 points.

JCC 82, BEA 40

The Jackson County Central Huskies won their seventh game in a row when they defeated the visiting Blue Earth Area Buccaneers 82-40 on Jan. 16.

The Huskies’ height advantage and pressing defense were too much for the Bucs to handle and JCC built a 45-22 lead by halftime.

JCC controlled the board by a 51-29 margin and scored 48 of their points in the paint.

Lola Lundquist led BEA in scoring with 15.
