Buccaneer girls lose to Waseca Bluejays

The host Waseca Bluejays held the visiting Blue Earth Area Buccaneers to seven first-half points on their way to a 52-20 victory in girls basketball action in Waseca on Monday, Jan. 27.

BEA was 4-for-25 (16 percent) from 2-point range and 4-for-24 (16.7 percent) from outside the arc. The Bucs missed all six of their free-throw attempts.

Waseca made 14 of their 38 (36.8 percent) shots from inside the arc and was 6-for-17 (35.3 percent) shooting 3-pointers. Waseca attempted 11 free throws and made six (54.5 percent).

The Bluejays had 43 rebounds compared to 31 for the Bucs. BEA had nine turnovers while Waseca finished with five.

Leading scorer for the Bucs was Emersen Weir with eight points. Myla Eastman finished with six.

Weir also led the team in rebounds with six followed by Eastman and Elaena Schiltz with five each.

After playing at Fairmont on Jan. 31, the BEA girls will host the Maple River Eagles in Blue Earth on Monday, Feb. 3.

GHEC/T/ML 64, BEA 49

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers hosted the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/ Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars in girls basketball on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Blue Earth.

BEA got off to a slow start and fell behind 15-0 before Emersen Weir finally put the Bucs on the board five minutes and 15 seconds into the game.

Weir’s basket came about when the Bucs broke the Jaguars’ press and Lola Lundquist found Weir alone behind the GHEC/T/ML defense.

The two teams played the remainder of the first half fairly even and at intermission the score was 39-28 in the Jaguars’ favor.

GHEC/T/ML outscored BEA 25-21 in the second half to go home with the 15-point victory.

The Bucs had one of their better shooting nights from inside the arc where they were 16-for-35 (45.7 percent) of their attempts. They hoisted up 28 shots from outside the arc and made five (17.9 percent). BEA attempted five free throw shots and made two (40 percent).

The Jags made 15 of their 41 (37 percent) 2-point attempts and were 7-for-21 (33.3 percent) from behind the arc. They shot 22 free throws and made 13 (59.1 percent).

GHEC/T/ML won the battle of the boards by a 49-39 margin. BEA scored 30 of their points in the paint compared to 26 for the Jags.

Turnovers were very even with the Bucs having 20 miscues compared to 18 for the Jags.

Leading scorer for BEA was Lundquist with 27 points. Elaena Schiltz finished with 10, Weir and Myla Eastman each had five and Jessica Moore had two.

Eastman led the team in rebounds with 10 while Lundquist had four assists and four steals.

TCU 67, BEA 20

The Bucs did not match up well against the Titans size and as a result Tri-City United defeated the visiting Blue Earth Area Bucs 67-20 in a Big South Conference tilt on Friday, Jan. 24.

TCU came into the game with an overall record of 12-3. Their 8-2 record in the BSC has them sitting atop the East Division of the conference.

The Bucs scored 12 points in the first half and only eight in the second half. They made only one of their 16 2-point shot attempts (6.3 percent) during the contest. They were 6-for-28 (21.4 percent) from outside the arc and they missed both of their two free-throw shots.

Myla Eastman led BEA in scoring with eight points while Lola Lundquist finished with six.
