Longhorns down Tigers

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team had little trouble when they faced the Medford Tigers on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The Longhorns downed the Tigers 51-22.

MR/USC jumped out to a 12-0 lead when Austin Sanders pinned Kyle Witter at 107 pounds and Alex Walser pinned Micah Wilson at 114.

At 121 pounds the Longhorns’ Troy Hollister lost by a pin to Elliot Jones and the score was 12-6. MR/USC’s Noah Gonzalez won by a fall over Boe Wilson at 127 pounds, but Bebo Getchell lost by a 19-3 technical fall at 133 and the score was then 18-11.

The Longhorns won the next five matches to take a commanding 48-11 lead.

Isaiah Gonzalez at 139 pounds, Waylon Simon at 145 and Shaune Peterson at 152 all won by forfeits. Kolt Bullerman won by a fall at 160 over James Wegner and Byron Getchell also won by a fall over Aiden Hunt at 172.

Max Fuller lost by a fall to Luther Johannes at 189 pounds, but then Dizel Butler won a 4-0 decision over Conor Wilson at 215 and the score was 51-17.

The Tigers took the 285 pound match when the Longhorns’ Jadon Parker lost a 17-2 technical fall to Mason Dogwood and the final score was 51-22.

The Longhorns began the Section 2AA Team Tournament on Feb. 13, against Mankato West.
