Longhorns fall to Saints at Section

After defeating Mankato West in the opening round of the tourney

The Maple River/United South Central Longhorns wrestling team won their first match in the Section 2AA Team Tournament over Mankato West by a score of 62-10.

However, the Longhorns lost their second match at the team tournament on Thursday, Feb. 13, falling to the St. Peter Saints by a score of 46-21.

That brought their season as a team to an end. Now the Longhorns are getting ready for the Individual Section 2AA Tournament which was scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22. It was set to be held at Mound/Westonka High School in Minnetrista.

Details on the Individual Section 2AA Tournament will be in the next issue of the Faribault County Register.

Mankato West 10

The Longhorns were seeded sixth in the tournament and the Scarlets were seeded 11th.

MR/USC only lost two matches in the contest on their way to a lopsided victory.

The Longhorns won the first two matches to take a 9-0 lead. Alex Walser took a 15-12 decision at 107 pounds over Maverick Baker. At 114 pounds Troy Hollister won by a fall over Elliot Thompson.

The score became 9-4 when the Longhorns’ Austin Sanders lost a 12-0 major decision to Bly Mettler.

MR/USC would win the next nine matches to take a commanding 62-4 lead.

Noah Gonzalez won by a fall over Maxwell Kozita at 127 pounds. Bebo Getchell won by a forfeit at 133. Isaiah Gonzalez won a 17-0 technical fall over Robert Wicks at 139. And at 145, Wyatt Walters won by a fall over Asher Valimont.

Shaune Peterson won by a fall over Lincoln Lundgren at 152 pounds. Kolt Bullerman won by a fall over Cameron Read at 160. At 172 Byron Getchell won by a fall over Ozkar Milbrett. At 189 Max Fuller won by a fall over James Engelen and at 215 Dizel Butler also won by a fall over Christopher Squires.

The Longhorns’ Jadon Parker lost by a fall to Eli Ahmann to make the final 62-10.

St. Peter 46, MR/USC 21

The No. 6-seeded Longhorns won the first match for a 3-0 lead when Alex Walser won an 8-3 decision over Liam Jensen at 107 pounds. However, it was the only led MR/USC would have in the match.

The No. 3-seeded Scarlets won the next two matches for a 12-3 lead. MR/USC’s Austin Sanders lost by a fall to Elijah Mercado at 114 pounds, and Troy Hollister lost by a fall at 121 pounds to Harlan Sinclair.

The Longhorns’ Noah Gonzalez won by a fall at 127 pounds over Tucker Nimps to make it 12-9, but Bebo Getchell lost by a fall at 133 to Isaiah Hesse and Isaiah Gonzalez lost by a fall at 139 to Charlie Born and the score was 24-9.

At 145 pounds MR/USC’s Wyatt Walters won a very close 6-5 decision over Brock Guth to make the score 24-12.

The Saints won the next two matches making it 34-12. Shaune Peterson lost a 17-2 technical fall to Evan Walter at 152 pounds and Kolt Bullerman lost a 22-5 technical fall to Deonte Torres at 160.

The Longhorns’ Byron Getchell won another close match, 2-1, over Ryan Moelter at 172 pounds to make the score 34-15, still in favor of the Saints.

The Saints made the score 40-15 when Kyler Anderson defeated the Longhorns’ Max Fuller at 189 by a fall. Dizel Butler pinned Eric Nourie at 215 and the score then was 40-21, but Jadon Parker lost by a fall to Kemper Ely at 285 and that made the final 46-21.
