Rebels start season with win
The United South Central girls softball team got off to a great start to their season when they defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 8-0 on Friday, March 28.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Rebels got one run in the second to take the lead.
The third inning was also scoreless but the Rebels notched four runs in the fourth and went up 5-0. They added two runs in the sixth inning and a final run in the seventh to take home the 8-0 win.
Mariah Anderson had a perfect game pitching, not only allowing no runs but also not allowing any hits. She struck out 16 batters and walked one.
MVL’s Katlyn Stadick pitched four innings and gave up five runs on five hits and walked six batters and struck out six. Nora Grace Otto came in for three innings for MVL and gave up three runs on five hits, walked none and struck out three.
Anderson also led at the plate for the Rebels as she was 3 for 4 including a double.
Ivy O’Rourke and Hannah Niebuhr were both 2 for 3, with Niebuhr having a double.
Also getting doubles were Taylor Schroeder and Lilly Lutteke. Olivia Bungum also had a single in the 10 hit barrage.
