BEA golf season gets off to good start

Both boys and girls win their first two meets by large margins

Jackson Blondin has been the medalist in the first two meets of the year.

The BEA girls and boys golf teams took on the Martin County West Mavericks at Minn-Iowa Golf Course on a windy and chilly day on Tuesday, April 8.

Girls Results

The Bucs defeated the Mavericks by 74 strokes for their second win in two meets. BEA finished with a team score of 53-over-par 201 while MCW scored a 127-over-par 275.

The top six golfers for the day were all Buccaneers.

Katelyn Storbeck was the meet medalist with a six-over-par 43. She carded four pars on hole Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6.

One stroke behind Storbeck was her teammate Madison Ehrich who shot a seven-over-par 44. Ehrich parred the fifth and sixth holes.

McKinley Hanson played her first round of competitive golf of the year while recovering from foot problems. She finished in a tie for third place with a 57 with fellow Buccaneer golfer, Reese Olson.

Finishing in fifth place for the Bucs was Averi Blair with a 61 while BEA’s Hailey Hanson was sixth with a 63.

Also getting a round in for the Bucs was seventh grader Haedyn Cole who finished with a 71. She had a par on hole No. 3.

Boys results

The BEA boys improved their record to 2-0 with a 50-stroke win over MCW. BEA produced a team score of 165 which was 21-over-par to MCW’s 71-over-par score of 215.

BEA nabbed six of the top seven spots on the leaderboard.

Jackson Blondin continued his hot start to the season by carding a one-over-par score of 37.

Blondin’s round included eight pars with one bogey. His only bogey came on hole No. 3.

Finishing in the runner-up spot was Cole Becker with a 42 which was six strokes over par. Becker parred hole Nos. 1, 5 and 6.

BEA’s Eli Blagg and Manny Granillo tied for third with each golfer recording a seven-over-par round of 43.

Blagg birdied the par-five sixth hole and the par-four eighth hole. He also made par on hole No. 4.

Granillo’s round included a birdie on the par-four first hole and pars on the second, fifth and sixth holes.

Kale Larson of the Mavericks claimed the fifth spot with a nine-over-par 45.

Hunter Viland was sixth with a 12-over-par score of 48. Viland birdied hole No. 1 and parred hole No. 5.

The Bucs’ Cole Beyer finished in seventh place with a 49 which put him 13 strokes-over-par. Beyer carded a birdie on the par-three fifth hole and had pars on the sixth and seventh holes.

Both Buccaneer teams were scheduled to host Maple River on Friday, April 11. Look for the results from those contests in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.

BEA vs. USC at Oakview

Golfers from Blue Earth Area and USC were able to get their first meet of the season in when they faced off against each other at Oakview Golf Course, near Freeborn, on Friday, April 4.

Boys Results

The Blue Earth Area boys golf team got their competitive season off to a good start with a 36-stroke victory over United South Central in each team’s first meet of the season.

BEA’s team score of 165 was 21-over-par while USC’s team score of 201 was 57-over-par.

Jackson Blondin of the Bucs was the medalist for the meet with an even par score of 36. Blondin had five pars during the nine-hole meet and offset two bogies with two birdies. His birdies came on the first and fourth holes.

BEA’s Cole Becker was the runner-up with a five-over-par score of 41. Becker parred six holes on the day.

Three golfers tied for third place with rounds of 44. The Rebels’ Brennan Olson along with the Bucs’ Hunter Viland and Manny Granillo each finished their round eight-over-par.

Olson recorded two birdies and one par, Viland had a birdie and three pars and Granillo finished with two pars.

Finishing sixth with a nine-over-par score of 45 was BEA’s Eli Blagg. He parred one hole.

In seventh place was the Rebels’ Mason Schrader with a 13-over-par score of 49. Schrader parred two holes during his round.

The Bucs’ Cole Beyer had one par while carding a 53 to finish in eighth place.

Finishing in a tie for ninth place were Colten Husfeldt and Octavio Hernandez of USC. They each recorded a score of 54.

Ryder Anderson of the Rebels was 11th with a 59 and Grayson Husfeldt was 12th with a 66.

Girls Results

Blue Earth Area nabbed the top three spots on the leaderboard on their way to a 205-252 victory over United South Central. The Bucs’ 47-stroke victory gives them a 1-0 record for the season while the Rebels are 0-1.

BEA’s Katelyn Storbeck claimed medalist honors at the meet with an eight-over-par score of 44.

Storbeck finished her round with a birdie on hole No. 1 and a par on hole No. 8.

Coming in second was the Bucs’ Madison Ehrich with a 13-over-par 49. She carded one par on the day on hole No. 3.

BEA’s Lola Lundquist had the third-best score of the day with a 14-over-par total of 50. She had a par on the par-five first hole.

USC’s Emma Heggen shot a 17-over-par round of 53 to finish in fourth place. Heggen’s score included pars on the second and sixth hole.

Claiming fifth place was Angelica Hernandez of the Rebels with a score of 58 which included a par on the first hole.

Hailey Hanson of the Bucs had a score of 62 which was good for sixth place.

Averi Blair claimed seventh place for the Maroon and Gold with a 66 and USC’s Lauren Hansen was eighth with 69.

Finishing in a tie for ninth place were Brynlee Olson of the Rebels and the Bucs’ Reese Olson with scores of 72.

USC’s Maya Hansen was 11th with a 75 and Bella Roberts was 12th with an 83.
