BEA 6, ML/GHEC/T 3
The Blue Earth Area baseball team picked up their first win of the season when they went on the road on April 4 to face Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman. The Bucs never trailed while triumphing 6-3 over the Jaguars.
Peyton O’Hara pitched all seven innings to pick up the victory. O’Hara scattered eight hits while allowing three earned runs. He struck out four batters and walked four.
BEA got on the board in the top of the first innings when they pushed two runs across the plate.
Carter Rosenau and Brody Haugh led off the game with two singles to put runners on first and second base. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch.
An error by the Jaguars’ shortstop on a ball hit by O’Hara allowed Rosenau to score and Haugh to reach third base with O’Hara safe at first.
After O’Hara stole second base, Will Weerts stroked a single to left field to plate Haugh with the Bucs’ second run of the game.
ML/GHEC/T scored once in the bottom of the first inning to cut BEA’s lead to 2-1.
The Bucs scored once in the top of the second inning to increase their lead to 3-1.
Brody Eckmann hit a one-out line-drive single to center field and advanced to third base on a single to Rosenau. Eckmann scored on a sacrifice fly to the left fielder by Haugh.
After holding the Jaguars scoreless in the bottom of the second inning, the Bucs came to bat in the top of the third inning and added three more runs to their total to extend their lead to 6-3.
Weerts led off the inning with a single before John Nelson was hit by a pitch to put runners on at first and second base. A pop out and a strike out got ML/GHEC/T one out away from getting out of the inning unharmed. However, an error by their first baseman on a ball hit by Eckmann allowed Weerts to score BEA’s fourth run of the game with Nelson checking in at third base and Eckmann stopping at first base.
Eckmann then stole second base to put both BEA runners in scoring position. Rosenau singled to bring home Nelson and an error on the play allowed Eckmann to score the Bucs’ third run of the inning.
The Jaguars added two more runs to their total in the bottom of the fourth inning before O’Hara closed out the game with three scoreless innings to preserve the Bucs’ 6-3 victory.
Leading BEA at the plate was Rosenau with three hits in five trips to the plate. He also scored one run and drove in one run.
Weerts went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one run batted in. Also driving in single runs for BEA were Haugh and O’Hara.
