Mariah Anderson strikes out 15 batters in victory over Medford

The United South Central Rebels girls softball team took a one-sided victory when they played the Medford Tigers on Tuesday, April 8, in Wells.

The Rebels won the game 8-0, and outhit the Tigers 7-1.

Rebel pitcher Mariah Anderson went all seven innings and allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out 15 batters.

One of those strike outs gave Anderson her 1,000th strikeout of her career.

Medford’s Melia Schema took the loss, giving up nine runs on seven hits, walking seven batters and striking out six Rebels.

USC scored three runs in the first inning, two in the third and four in the fourth.

Alivia Bruegger led the way at the plate going 3 for 4, including a double. Anderson went 2 for 3 at the plate. Taylor Schroeder and Ivy O’Rourke each had one hit.

The Rebels went wild on the base running. Anderson stole four bases, Bruegger two and Addie Mithun, Brylee Neubauer, Olivia Bungum, O’Rourke and Schroeder all had one each.

Next up for the Rebels was a game on Thursday, April 10, at New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Details on that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.

USC 15, A-C/G-E 0

The United South Central Rebels softball team had little trouble against Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons, winning 15-0 in four innings, on Thursday, April 3.

The Rebels cranked out 16 hits to just one for A-C/G-E. Alivia Bruegger had a home run, Taylor Schroeder and Olivia Bungum hit triples and Schroeder blasted two doubles.

Ivy O’Rourke was 3 for 3 at the plate and Brylee Neubauer was 2 for 2. Schroeder was 3 for 4 and Mariah Anderson, Bungum and Bruegger were all 2 for 3.

Anderson pitched all four innings for the Rebels, giving up one hit and one base on balls and striking out nine batters.

Addie Mattson pitched two innings for A-C/G-E and gave up 13 runs on 13 hits, had two walks and two strikeouts. Taylor Hornberger pitched one and a third innings and gave up two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out two.
