USC remains undefeated in softball
Team topples NRHEG, Maple River and Southland; has 7-0 record

It was the Rebels versus the Rebels in Wells.
The United South Central Rebels softball team scored another shutout win, this time over the Southland Rebels on Tuesday, April 15.
The USC Rebels scored one run in the first, second and fifth innings, then had three runs in the sixth inning to take the 6-0 victory.
USC outhit Southland 11 to 2. USC Rebels Addie Mithun, Taylor Schroeder, Mariah Anderson and Olivia Bungum each had a double in the game.
Bungum was 3 for 4 at the plate while Anderson was 2 for 4. Ivy O’Rourke was 2 for 3. Lilly Lutteke also had a hit in the game.
Anderson pitched all seven innings of the game and gave up two hits, no runs, walked three batters and struck out 16.
Southland Rebels’ pitcher Laney Weis pitched six innings and gave up the six runs on 11 hits, walked none and struck out seven.
USC 6, Maple River 0
When the United South Central girls softball team scored their first run in the first inning, that was going to be all they would need when they faced the Maple River Eagles on Monday, April 14, at home.
The Rebels would go on to score two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the third, and another two in the fifth on their way to a 6-0 victory.
The Rebels’ star pitcher, Mariah Anderson, pitched a perfect game, allowing no hits, runs or bases on balls. She struck out 18 of the 21 batters she faced in seven innings.
Taylor Schroeder led the way at the plate and went 2 for 2, with one of her hits being a double and the other one being a home run.
Anderson was 2 for 4 at the plate with one of her two being a triple. Ivy O’Rourke and Alivia Bruegger got the other two hits for the Rebels as they had eight hits in the game.
Maple River’s Macy Sohre pitched three innings and took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits, walking two batters and striking out one. Kelsey Jaeger pitched three innings and gave up two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out six.
USC 13, NRHEG 0
The United South Central Rebels’ softball team cruised to another big win, this time winning 13-0 over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva in a game played on Thursday, April 10.
The Rebels pounded out 14 hits while their ace pitcher, Mariah Anderson, had a no-hitter against the Panthers.
USC scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, four in the third, two more in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
Anderson also led the team at the plate going 4 for 5 with one of her hits a double. Olivia Bungum was 3 for 5 with two doubles. Alivia Bruegger also had a double and was 3 for 4 at the plate.
Lilly Lutteke was 2 for 4 and Addie Mithun and Hannah Niebuhr both had a hit.
The score could have been higher as the Rebels left 11 runners on base during the game.
Anderson pitched all six innings had a perfect game, giving up no hits or runs, walking one batter and striking out 15. NRHEG pitcher Brooklyn Sommer also went six innings giving up the 13 runs on the 14 hits, walked eight batters and struck out four.
The Panthers had 13 errors in the game and the Rebels none.
