Bucs beaten by Cardinals 10-0 in five innings
Blue Earth Area batters were limited to only one hit when they faced Fairmont in a Big South Conference baseball game in Fairmont on May 6. Meanwhile, the Cardinals made the most of seven hits and three Buccaneer errors to defeat BEA 10-0 in five innings.
After a scoreless first inning, Fairmont plated five runners in the bottom of the second inning.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the third and ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored two more runs to trigger the 10-run rule.
Carter Rosenau got the Bucs’ only hit of the game.
Drew Thomas started the game for BEA and gave up five runs (zero earned) in one and two thirds innings of work. Thomas allowed one hit and walked five batters.
Caiden Sickler relieved Thomas in the second inning and pitched two and a third innings giving up six hits, five runs (three earned) while walking one batter and striking out one batter.
Will Weerts entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched to two batters.
Pipestone Area 13, BEA 1
Blue Earth Area dropped both games of a doubleheader against Pipestone Area when they made the trip west on Friday, May 2, to take on the Arrows.
The Bucs scored their only run in the first game in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Leadoff batter Carter Rosenau was hit by a pitch and a bunt single by Brayden Rhey put runners on first and second base with no outs.
A double by Peyton O’Hara drove in Rosenau with Rhey holding up at third base. Unfortunately, Rhey and O’Hara were left stranded in scoring position, but BEA had a 1-0 lead.
The Bucs’ lead was shortlived, however. The Arrows scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Pipestone Area added five more runs in the second inning, one in the third and five more in the fourth inning to account for their 13 runs.
In addition to Rhey’s bunt single and O’Hara’s double, John Nelson had the only other hit, a double, for BEA.
While the Bucs only had three hits, the Arrows had 10. BEA committed five errors while Pipestone Area had none.
Brayden Rhey took the loss for the Maroon and Gold after pitching two innings and allowing seven total runs (three earned) on six hits. He issued four walks and had one strikeout.
Hayden Vereide pitched the final two innings for BEA and surrendered six runs (three earned) on four hits. He walked three batters and struck out two.
Pipestone Area 18, BEA 2
Blue Earth Area was the home team for the second game of the twin bill and Pipestone Area wasted no time jumping out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning.
The Arrows added four runs in the top of the second inning, five in the third and two in the fourth to take a 14-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Bucs broke up the Arrows’ shutout by tallying two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Will Weerts singled to start the inning and Logan Rademaker was hit by a pitch. A passed ball followed by an error allowed both Weerts and Rademaker to score and make the score 14-2 in Pipestone Area’s favor.
The Arrows added four more runs to their total in the fifth inning.
BEA had six hits in the game and committed six errors.
Hayden Vereide and Brody Eckmann pitched for the Bucs with Vereide charged with the loss.
