USC loses to Southland in last inning

A walk-off left United South Central on the wrong end of a 5-4 defeat to Southland on Monday, May 5. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Noah Goergen singled, scoring one run.

Mason Atchley collected four hits in four at bats in the loss. Atchley singled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

USC opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. The Rebels first got on the board when Kolt Bullerman singled, scoring one run.

USC added one run in the third after Atchley singled down the right field line.

Southland took the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two singles. Avery Crawford singled to the left side of the infield on a full count, which helped the Rebels tie the game at four in the top of the seventh.

Riley Stevermer took the loss for USC. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking none. Mitchell Meyer stepped on the mound first for the Rebels. The pitcher allowed six hits and two runs over four innings, striking out three and walking three.

USC stole four bases in the game and didn’t commit a single error.

Next up for the Rebels was a game at Hayfield on Thursday, May 8. Details on that game will be in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.

Blooming Prairie 7, USC 4

The United South Central Rebels could not keep up with the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms, losing 7-4 on Thursday, May 1.

The Rebels were the first to get on the board in the first inning when a dropped third strike scored one run.

Blooming Prairie took the lead, 3-1, in the top of the second inning.

Aiden Crabtree took the loss for United South Central. The right-handed pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits, striking out nine and walking one.

Seth Kayser led the Rebels with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Kayser and Kolt Bullerman each collected two hits for United South Central.

Blooming Prairie piled up 11 hits in the game.
