USC baseball team falls to Spring Grove 5-1

The United South Central Rebels could not keep pace with the Spring Grove Lions on Thursday, May 22, in the opening round of the Section 1A Baseball Tournament.
The No. 10-seeded Rebels lost 5-1 to the No. 7-seeded Lions, bringing USC’s season to an end.
Spring Grove was the first to get on the board in the second inning when Sam Klug doubled, scoring one run.
The Lions extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.
USC scored their only run in the top of the seventh inning.
Brandon Jahnke earned the win for Spring Grove. The starter allowed two hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. Aiden Crabtree took the loss for USC. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking one.
Drew Bullerman and Wyatt Haugh each collected one hit for the Rebels, who also turned one double play in the game.
Spring Grove’s record improved to 12-8 with the win, while the USC Rebels ended the year with a record of 9-11.
The Lions move on to the next round of the Section 1A Baseball Tournament where they will face Blooming Prairie.

The United South Central Rebels baseball team won big over Kenyon-Wanamingo 9-3 on Thursday, May 15.
Kenyon-Wanamingo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Owen Craig hit a sacrifice fly, and Gunner Kennedy singled to center field, each scoring one run.
USC jumped into the lead in the top of the third when Avery Crawford drew a walk, scoring one run, Kolt Bullerman singled, scoring two runs, and Aiden Crabtree grounded out, scoring one run.
Riley Stevermer earned the win for United South Central. The starter allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.
Mason Haugh led USC at the plate with three runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Crawford stole two bases. The Rebels had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. The Rebels also ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game.
