Wells Wildcats clamp down on Gators for a 5-3 league victory

The Wells Wildcats were victorious against the North Mankato Gators 5-3 on Sunday, June 8.

The Gators opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two ground outs. They first got on the board when Parker Baron grounded out, scoring one run.

Then the Gators committed an error, which helped Wells tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.

A single by Riley Bersaw gave North Mankato the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth.

Todd Rasmussen singled down the right field line following a 7-pitch at-bat, which helped the Wildcats tie the game at three in the top of the seventh.

In the top of the 10th inning, the Wildcats went back into the lead after Jacob Skinness singled to center field, and Trey Allis walked, each scoring one run.

Skinness began the game for Wells and he allowed three hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Ross Buttleman started the game for North Mankato and the hurler allowed nine hits and three runs (two earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none. Mike Olsen threw five innings of no-run ball for Wells in relief. The hurler gave up three hits, striking out five and walking two.

Wells collected 11 hits in the game with Cody Huiras and Olsen each having three hits. Rasmussen, Allis, Nick Fure, and Skinness each drove in one run for the Wildcats. The Wildcats were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Allis made the most plays with eight.
