The Blue Earth Pirates held the Lake Crystal Lakers scoreless in their seven-inning, 11-0 victory in a 13/60 League baseball game played at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Wednesday, July 2.

Three Blue Earth pitchers combined their efforts to limit the Lakers to only four hits during the game.

Taylor Davids started on the mound for the Pirates and pitched three and one third innings to get the win. Davids did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out three batters.

Ryan Vereide took over for Davids with one out in the fourth inning and threw two and two thirds shutout innings.

Vereide gave up three hits, walked two batters and struck out three.

Talan Priester pitched the final inning and gave up one hit while holding the Lakers scoreless.

The Pirates got all the offense they would need in the bottom of the first inning when they erupted for eight runs.

Parker Meyers got things going for Blue Earth with a one-out triple to right field. A single by Brandyn Olsen plated Meyers with the first run of the game. A double to center field by Hunter Bleess put runners on second and third base.

Lake Crystal recorded their second out of the inning on a strikeout and it appeared they might get out of the inning with minimal damage. However, Zac Schonrock kept the inning going for Blue Earth when he singled to left field to bring home both Olsen and Bleess for a 3-0 Pirates’ lead.

An error on an infield ground ball hit by Peyton O’Hara allowed Schonrock to reach third base while O’Hara was safe at first. A single by Davids scored Schonrock with Blue Earth’s fourth run of the game and advanced O’Hara to second base.

The next Blue Earth batter to come to the plate was Tanner Nawrocki and he hit a line-drive single to center field which plated O’Hara and moved Davids to second base. A single by Priester drove home Davids with the Pirates’ sixth run of the inning with Nawrocki making it to third base.

A passed ball allowed Nawrocki to score the seventh run of the inning and Priester to move up to second base.

Meyers then singled for his second hit of the inning to plate Priester and put Blue Earth on top of Lake Crystal 8-0.

A single by Bleess and a double by Logan O’Hara put Blue Earth runners on second and third base with no outs to begin the bottom of the second inning. Schonrock’s single scored Bleess and advanced O’Hara to third base. A sacrifice fly by Peyton O’Hara drove in his brother Logan with Blue Earth’s 10th run of the game.

The Pirates’ final run of the contest came in the bottom of the third inning when Brandyn Olsen singled and scored on a double by Bleess.

Blue Earth batters accumulated 16 hits during the game led by Bleess, who was 4-for-4 with two doubles. Schonrock, Meyers and Olsen each had two hits with Schonrock driving in three runs.
