USC tennis team goes 1-1 for the week

The United South Central Rebels turned their week around after a loss to Maple River at an away meet in Mapleton on Thursday, Sept. 18, bouncing back to defeat Redwood Valley at a home meet on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Saturday’s meet against Redwood Valley also marked an important milestone for Rebel Olivia Bungum, who secured her 50th career win in her No. 2 singles match against Grace Blare, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Redwood Valley 1

The Rebels came out on top against the Redwood Valley Cardinals, winning 6-1 at their home meet on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Rebel Ivy O’Rourke defeated Cardinal Eloise Brozek in No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Olivia Bungum achieved her 50th career win by defeating Grace Blare in No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Claire Schimek defeated Faith Bruns in No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Brooke Huper defeated Anais Cournoyer in No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 7-6.

Caitlin Rheingans and Elise Hanson were defeated by Kiki Goodthunder and Kaelynn Welsh in No. 1 doubles, losing 6-2, 7-6.

Julianna Clore and Kylee Koziolek defeated Ellery Larsen and Iris Vogland in No. 2 doubles, winning 6-1, 6-2.

Tori Stevermer and Gretchen Bungum defeated Yazmin Nunez and Harper Helgeson in No. 3 doubles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Maple River 5, USC 2

The Rebels were swept away by the Maple River Eagles, losing 5-2 at their away meet in Mapleton on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Rebel Caitlin Rheingans was defeated by Eagle Tabitha Barkosky in No. 1 singles, losing 6-0, 6-0.

Gretchen Bungum was defeated by Macy Sohre in No. 2 singles, losing 6-0, 6-0.

Brooke Huper held on to defeat Kennedi Oliver in No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 7-6.

Tori Stevermer was defeated by Kaelyn Thomas in No. 4 singles, losing 6-1, 6-0.

Ivy O’Rourke and Olivia Bungum powered through to defeat Ally Mersman and Claire Langworthy in No. 1 doubles, winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Julianna Clore and Kylee Koziolek were defeated by Madison Ward and Merrit Ward in No. 2 doubles, losing 6-0, 6-2.

Elise Hanson and Claire Schimek were defeated by Norah Davis and Kate Davis in No. 3 doubles, losing 6-2, 6-1.
