Chloe Bullerman goes above the net to spike the ball against Alden- Conger on Sept. 23.

While they did lose 3-0, there were some signs of improvement for the United South Central Rebels during their volleyball match against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Thursday, Sept. 18.

The scores were 25-20, 25-10, 25-22.

“Overall a better performance by us tonight,” coach Joe Kuechenmeister said. “We competed well in sets one and three and without a couple of minor mistakes we could have easily ended up on the winning end.”

The coach added that in set two the team kind of lost themselves and made way too many unforced errors.

“But I was happy to see the kids pull it together to rebound and fight better in the third,” he said.

Chloe Bullerman and Jaelyn Stangler led the team in kills with 12 each. Bullerman also had 15 digs, 1 assist and five blocks. Stangler had three digs and two blocks.

Alivia Bruegger had five kills and 14 digs, Kaydra Haugh had two kills and three digs, Reanna Obermeyer had one kill and four digs and one block.

Olivia Bird had five digs while Presley Brandenburg had two digs and one ace.

Izzy Bird had 27 assists and 11 digs.

“Our serve receive passing was improved overall tonight, as was our setter/hitter connection and those are two things we’ve been spending a lot of time on in practice,” the coach added. “Maintaining our level will have to continue to be a focus as we go into a weekend tournament with several opportunities to get W’s.”

USC is now 2-6 (0-4 Gopher Conference).
