Maple River defeats BEA in semifinals

After the Bucs opened the playoffs with a win over River Valley

Erin Prescher hits a return at the net for a winner in the No. 2 doubles match in BEA’s victory over River Valley in the opening round of Section 2A play on Monday, Sept. 29. Prescher and her partner, Brooklyn Rosenau, won their match 6-1, 6-0.

The No. 3 seeded Blue Earth Area Buccaneers started their playoff season off right, defeating the No. 6 seeded River Valley Wildcats in the quarterfinals round of the Class A, Section 2 Tournament on Monday, Sept. 29. The contest was hosted at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth, and saw the Bucs claim a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats.

The victory over River Valley put BEA in the semifinal round against No. 2 seeded Maple River who had received a first-round bye.

The Bucs were hoping for an upset but the Eagles prevailed with a 5-2 victory. The loss by BEA ends the team portion of their season.

Maple River won all four of the singles matches against BEA.

The Eagles’ Tabitha Barkosky defeated Grace Hanson in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Maple River’s Macy Sohre was victorious over Addison Prescher 6-2, 6-0.

Ally Mersman of the Eagles downed Abigail Greff in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Madison Ward gave Maple River another win at No. 4 singles by defeating Abbey Lorenz 6-2, 6-2.

The Eagles’ fifth win came at No. 3 singles where Kate Davis and Haddie Sharkey defeated McKinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The Bucs picked up a win at No. 1 doubles when Carol Schrader and Grace Schavey won over Claire Langworthy and Norah Davis 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, BEA’s Erin Prescher and Brooklyn Rosenau defeated Kennedi Oliver and Merrit Ward 6-2, 6-4.

BEA 5, River Valley 2

Buc Abbey Lorenz was the first to snag a win for BEA, defeating Wildcat Kylie Fischer in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1 to give BEA an early 1-0 lead.

Next to score a win was No. 1 doubles team Carol Schrader and Grace Schavey, defeating Bronwyn Sorenson and Delaney Rex 6-1, 6-0 to bring BEA’s lead to 2-0.

Mckinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck defeated Alayra Beyer and Jazmine Robertson in No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-1, adding another win to extend BEA’s lead 3-0.

Finally, No. 2 doubles team Erin Prescher and Brooklyn Rosenau defeated Alisyn Danielson and Dani Junker 6-1, 6-0 to punch BEA’s ticket to the semifinal-round with a 4-0 lead.

BEA’s final win of the night was achieved by Addison Prescher, who defeated Selene Khronfeldt in No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2.

Grace Hanson was defeated by Taylor Berkner in No. 1 singles, losing 6-3, 6-3.

Abigail Greff was defeated by Chloe O’Kerman in No. 3 singles, losing 6-3, 6-4.

Owatonna 5, BEA 2

The Bucs ended their regular season of tennis with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Owatonna Huskies at an away meet in Owatonna on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Buc Grace Hanson was defeated by Husky Patty Jo Procopio in No. 1 singles, losing 6-3, 6-2.

Addison Prescher defeated Genevieve Froman in No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-3.

Abigail Greff was defeated by Greta Veldman in No. 3 singles, losing 6-1, 6-3.

Abbey Lorenz struggled to hold on, and was ultimately defeated by Gabi Navarro in No. 4 singles, losing 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Carol Schrader and Grace Schavey were defeated by Harper Shives and Haley McNett in No. 1 doubles, losing 6-4, 6-3.

Erin Prescher and Brooklyn Rosenau turned things around to defeat June Froman and Lily Thiele in No. 2 doubles, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Mckinley Hanson and Katelyn Storbeck were defeated by Sophie Grams and Megan Deml in No. 3 doubles, losing 7-5, 7-5.
