The United South Central Rebels wrapped up their Class A, Section 1 Individuals Tournament run with a third-place finish for doubles team Ivy O’Rourke and Olivia Bungum. The tournament was hosted at the Rochester Athletics Club in Rochester on Monday, Oct. 13.

Individuals Semifinals

O’Rourke and Bungum began their day in a semifinals match against Thèrèse Bauer and Rylee Thieren of Lake City, in which they were defeated 7-6, 6-1. However, their tournament run wasn’t finished just yet, as they earned a spot in a true second place match to determine who would compete for first place.

O’Rourke and Bungum faced off against Sophia Nerison and Livia Tennessen of Cannon Falls in an extremely close true second place match, but were ultimately defeated 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, denying them a chance to compete at the State Tournament but allowing them a shot at third place in their section.

O’Rourke and Bungum proved that the third time was indeed the charm, as they turned their day around to defeat Mary Kate Bauer and Emily Mehrkens of Lake City in their third place match, winning 6-2, 6-3 to claim third place overall in the tournament.
