USC’s Brayden Mithun (24) breaks up a pass intended for Fillmore Central’s Rylan Ristau. Fillmore Central, the No. 1-seeded team in Section 1A, defeated the No. 5-seeded USC 34-6 in the Section 1A semifinals on Oct. 25.

After the No. 4-seeded United South Central Rebels defeated the No. 5-seeded New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers in the Section 1A quarterfinals the week before, the Rebels ran into a tougher battle on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they took on the No. 1 seed Fillmore Central in the semifinals.

The Rebels lost 34 to 6 to the Falcons, and their 2025 season came to a close. The Falcons moved on to take on Lewiston-Altura to see who would advance to the State Football Tournament.

Fillmore Central scored a touchdown in the first, third and fourth quarters, and two in the second quarter to take the win.

The Rebels’ lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter, when they scored a touchdown on a very long 18-play, 72-yard drive. It started with 2:43 left in the third quarter and ended over 10 minutes later.

The drive ended with a five-yard touchdown run by Brody Steinhauer. The pass attempt for the two-point conversion was incomplete.

USC’s other ball possessions ended with a punt four times, one turnover on downs and one interception.

Filmore Central’s scoring plays were a 25-yard pass, eight-yard run, 62-yard pass, four-yard pass and a two-yard run.

The Falcons had 418 yards of offense to the Rebels 130. USC gained 92 yards on the ground and 38 through the air, while Fillmore Central had 237 rushing yards and 181 passing.

The Rebels did run more plays than the Falcons, 49 to 40, and possessed the ball longer, 27:13 to 20:43.

Shaune Peterson was the leading rusher for the Rebels, with 14 carries and gaining 39 yards. Brayden Mithun gained 28 yards on five attempts. Noah Gonzalez had 20 yards on seven totes.

Kolt Bullerman had five completions out of 10 pass attempts for 33 yards. Steinhauer was one for five attempts and five yards.

The Section semifinals loss brings the Rebels football season to a close.
