LCWM 64, BEA 48

The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team opened their 2025-2026 season on the road against the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights on Thursday, Nov. 27.

After leading for most of the game, the Bucs watched their advantage slip away in the final minutes of the contest and the Knights went on to claim a 64-48 victory.

“It was a good effort by our girls,” BEA head coach Spencer Monson said. “They played hard the whole game.”

Grace Schavey scored the inaugural point of the season when she put a free throw through the hoop a minute and a half into the game.

Lola Lundquist triggered a fast break when she threw the ball over the Knights’ defense to Emersen Weir who converted the layup for a 3-0 BEA lead.

Lundquist then connected for two treys that boosted the Bucs’ advantage to 9-0 with just over 12 minutes to play in the opening half.

After going scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game, the Knights got on the board with a free throw to make the score 9-1.

The scoreboard showed BEA leading 14-7 when BEA’s Jessi James picked the pocket of a LCWM guard and took the ball to the hoop for an easy basket. After stopping the Knights on their next possession, James took aim from outside the three-point line and connected for a basket that put BEA on top 19-7 with 3:50 remaining until half time.

By the time the buzzer sounded ending the opening stanza, the Bucs held a 24-19 lead.

BEA maintained their lead through the opening minutes of the second half.

LCWM took their first lead of the game with 12:12 left in the game when a three-pointer gave them a 35-33 advantage.

BEA reclaimed the lead 12 seconds later when Weir stepped behind the arc for a trey that had the Bucs back in front 36-33.

The Maroon and Gold eventually extended their lead to five points at 40-35 with just over 11 minutes to play in the game. However, an 8-0 run by the Knights gave the home team a 43-40 lead with 9:23 remaining on the game clock.

Another three-pointer by Weir at the 7:57 mark gave BEA their last lead of the game at 45-44.

LCWM outscored BEA 20-3 in the final seven and a half minutes of the contest to defeat the Bucs 64-48.

The most notable statistic of the game came in the free throw department. The Bucs went to the charity stripe four times and converted two of their shots. Meanwhile, the Knights attempted 41 free throws and made 23 which provided the points they needed to overtake the Bucs.

BEA was outrebounded by LCWM by a 60-30 margin. The Bucs had 14 steals and seven blocks compared to seven steals and one block for the Knights.

The Bucs committed 16 turnovers while the Knights had 23.

BEA was 8-for-31 (25.8 percent) from inside the arc and 10-for-35 (28.6 percent) from outside the arc.

LCWM attempted 35 two-points shots and made 10 (28.6 percent). They shot 19 times from outside the arc and made seven (36.8 percent).
