BEA boys improve their record to 9-3

Team wins on the road against Windom Area and Redwood Valley

The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team defeated Windom Area for the second time this season when they defeated the Eagles 84-76 in Windom on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

The Bucs trailed through much of the first half before going on an 18-7 run that turned a four-point deficit into a 48-41 lead at the intermission. BEA outscored Windom Area by one point, 36-35, in the second half.

Will Bromeland was the leading scorer for BEA with 28 points followed by Sully Dahlberg with 27 and Tate Elzenga with 15.

Bromeland had nine rebounds, Dahlburg had eight and Caden Juba had seven. Juba led BEA in assists with four and in steals with two.

After hosting Pipestone Area on Jan. 16, BEA will play at Fairmont on Jan. 20, at Luverne on Jan. 23 and at Waseca on Jan. 26.

Redwood Valley 68

The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team improved their record to 8-3 with an 81-68 victory over the host Redwood Valley Cardinals on Friday, Jan. 9, in Redwood Falls.

In a tightly-played first half, the two teams exchanged the lead nine times. There were also seven ties throughout the first 18 minutes of play.

Trailing 32-31 with 2:18 remaining in the first half, the Bucs scored the final five points before intermission to begin the final half with a 36-32 lead.

The Cardinals pulled within two points of the Bucs a couple of times during the opening four minutes of the second half but BEA never surrendered the lead.

Leading 45-43, the Bucs’ Ryder Dutton and Sully Dahlberg each sank three-pointers and Dahlberg also sank two free throws to give BEA a 53-45 lead.

Later, with the Bucs up 59-47, Tate Elzenga, Will Bromeland and Dutton all knocked down shots from behind the arc to put BEA in front 58-47.

The Maroon and Gold’s largest lead of the game was 74-58 with 1:21 left to play and they sank seven free throws in the final 33 seconds to go home with the 13-point win.

Dahlberg led BEA with 21 points. His two free throws right before intermission were the only two points he tallied in the first half but he heated up in the final 18 minutes of play to add 19 more to his total. Also reaching double figures in scoring were Bromeland with 17 points and Peter Fletcher with 13.

Fletcher achieved a double-double by recording 10 blocked shots and was one rebound short of a triple double with nine rebounds. Dahlberg just missed a double-double when he finished with nine rebounds.

As a team, BEA recorded a total of 37 rebounds compared to 30 for Redwood Valley. The Bucs committed 14 turnovers to 13 for the Cardinals.

BEA was 14-for-26 (54 percent) on their shots inside the arc and 11-for-27 (41 percent) from outside the arc. They shot 27 free throws and made 20 (74 percent).

Redwood Valley was led in scoring by Zack Lundeen with 21 points and Zachariah Malecek with 20.

As a team the Cardinals were 15-for-33 (45 percent) on their two-point attempts and 10-for-24 (42 percent) on their three-point attempts. They were 8-for-9 (89 percent) from the free-throw line.
